Weather in this part of VA has been wet and warm - lot of rain over the past few days so ground is very soft, since all the chores got done and had some time to myself, I headed down to do a little hunting at a neighboring farm that dates back to the 1750's. Stone walls surround the property so started there. Lots of iron, some large flat buttons, some smaller ones, and finally around the old smokehouse foundation, got a solid 85 on the ATP. Pulled a 1787 GEOIII silver shilling at about 4". Spent some time working the foundation and pulled a couple of flat buttons. About to call it a day as I got another 55 on the meter - usually a button and it did look like a gilt button until I got a closer look - 1762 GEOIII gold quarter guinea! I've been detecting for 45 years and have never found a gold coin - I guess "Never give up" applies!:tongue3:

Been asked to post photos of the reverse of the coins - best I could do - just couldn't get a good focus with the phone camera:BangHead:

That coin is just amazing!

Absolutely Amazing coins, too find them in such Great condition around the smoke house would make me wonder if they might of been part of a cache buried inside around the foundation. I wish you the best of Luck on your next visit there, too possibly save even more Lifetime finds. Bill

You pulled off a feat that the majority of detectorists possibly will never ever do, even if it took you so many years to do it.
Stand up and take a bow, give yourself a slap on the back, or a high five or whatever! Be damned proud of those finds, you deserve it !
This doesn't happen everyday, just every day of the past week!

Nice Finds ! Thank you for posting all the days Keepers

Yet another banner find. You have my vote. Congrats!

Congrats on a couple magnificent finds. Someday I'd like to get some colonial gold of some sort. :notworthy:

Beautiful coins! my vote is in...

:o Yepper , really Great Hunt & Finds ! Any buttons ? :laughing7:

What a Christmas present and you found it all by yourself. Hope I am blessed to find some gold coins in this lifetime. Congratulations. Was it a low tone 55 or high? I've found quite a few gold rings in that range, but depending on how they were laying in the water or what was around them they were low and high. Wonder if I ever missed something like this just thinking it was a pull tab, but mostly dig about anything above 40 and above. Depends on how tired I am and how much I listen to that little voice that says dig or you will regret it. I know rings are probably different than gold coins, but it shouldn't be that much difference. Happy hunting.

Wow, congratulations on a great hunt! Banner! Never ceases to amaze me how beautiful gold emerges from the ground.

WOW! Awesome Double Georges! :occasion14:

I'm very happy to see your coin up on banner. Congratulations

Congrats on the Banner. It was a no brainer!

Man that's an awesome find, one that's been at the top of my most wanted list for many years. Congrats on an incredible coin! It's strange, though, that the few colonial gold coins I've seen posted here have come from some unexpected places like Ohio, Kentucky, and now the valley of Va. You would think these would pop up occasionally in the population centers and plantations along the east coast, but nobody seems to dig them here. A strange phenomena for sure ....

Congratulations on the Banner find! Very, very deserving! i think I would have been frozen in place in absolute joy and shock for a very long time after seeing the glint of gold in the hole!
