Weather in this part of VA has been wet and warm - lot of rain over the past few days so ground is very soft, since all the chores got done and had some time to myself, I headed down to do a little hunting at a neighboring farm that dates back to the 1750's. Stone walls surround the property so started there. Lots of iron, some large flat buttons, some smaller ones, and finally around the old smokehouse foundation, got a solid 85 on the ATP. Pulled a 1787 GEOIII silver shilling at about 4". Spent some time working the foundation and pulled a couple of flat buttons. About to call it a day as I got another 55 on the meter - usually a button and it did look like a gilt button until I got a closer look - 1762 GEOIII gold quarter guinea! I've been detecting for 45 years and have never found a gold coin - I guess "Never give up" applies!:tongue3:

Wow, those are some incredible finds of gold and silver. I can only hope to pull something as good as just one of those one day. Great job!

Congrats Mr. Deepsecrets; you waited a long time, so richly deserved.

Man this sucks as your's really would great up there, but I just read this-

I just read that too
A day late and a shilling/ quarter guinea late too
that's unfortunate

I saw that prohibition just before seeing this thread and my heart sank. But look at the condition of that shilling!! I'm voting banner on that, the ill-timed-for-banner but incredible guinea aside.

Long will I remember this crazy TNET Golden Winter Equinox.

That is a find of a life time ×2!!
Banner all day long.
As far as Im concerned take my modern gold coin down and put that up!!! It will look so much better up top..
Fantastic.
Congrats on a killer find..

Total. Class. Act.

If anyone posts another thread asking what we think of the Atpro, I think I'll just send them to your thread. Congrats on those beauties!:occasion14:

Oh man you just made two incredibly rare finds. I love the condition on both of those. Wow!!!! If these don't go Banner that is an absolute travesty! Take down that modern junky gold coin Vino found. He won't mind. Leave the Banner count for him but trade it out. Those have to go up. Seriously

Oh... deep... My girl saw this and said that you need to go play the Lotto. heh

Really really awesome finds :) Congrats on the conquer and rescue of two great coins hidden in the dig :)

Yeah take it down and send it to me. And that hammered Spanish gold, well that is taking up space too. ;)

I will be happy to send it to you for 2 RPs and a silver reg button!!

Well deserved congrats

You can still sing the song I wrote for you, banner or not.

I don't know what to say that hasn't been said already. WOW

Folks,

Either of those coins deserve to be up top but like IP I refuse to vote anymore because the deck is fixed.....

Congrats on your awesome find!!

Congrats awesome bucket list find! That is awesome!

I sent in my Banner vote, and then saw that Jeff had posted a rule about gold coin finds. Sorry-Bummer.
Two very nice find that don't come along every day. Actually they might come along every 45 years.
How old will you be? :D
Good Luck,
Phil

Just got back from taking the family out to dinner - kinda celebration type of thing. Thank you all for your kind and great comments - yes, I'm stoked and will be back there as soon as I can. Banner is not important to me, just knowing that there are opportunities for all of us to uncover and save some piece of history.
I started detecting when I was about 13 yrs old. My Dad and I were the first to import and sell Whites detectors in Ireland. We did that for a few years before coming back to the US. I have been blessed with some pretty awesome finds in my book - not as awesome as many TNET'Rs here but happy to be associated with all of you great hunters! I wish you all a fantastic 2016 out in the field. HH:icon_thumleft:

deepsecrets,

Just remember both of those coins deserve to be up top and the knowledgeable members will recognize them as such.....the pat on the back from the veterans mean more than making banner.

Regards + HH

It's an awesome find whether it is allowed to be banner or not! Congrats!

I would love to welcome you to the gold coin finder's club, but, alas, I'm not a member yet. :(

Wonderful finds!
