A couple days before I discovered the 1793 Liberty Cap Cent in the same field
I was out detecting the corn rows and this pretty little coin popped out. I have found Connecticut and New Jersey coppers but never a Vermont Copper so it was extra exciting. Unfortunately, even though it is a pretty good find it was overshadowed by the 1793. Can we show it some love now?
Interestingly, these coins were actually minted here in New York in Newburgh which is about fifteen miles as the crow flies from where I found it. It is amazing to think that the coin was made there, traveled the wagon wheel rutted "roads" and trails of the day all the way to Vermont and then back down to practically its birthplace but ended up getting dropped in a field that at the time was the site of a religous meeting house until the 1860's.
I thought it deserved at least a little bit of attention so I thought it might be alright to post it here.
Last night I cleaned it up as much as I dare to and I am very happy with the results. I am looking forward to what else this field may give up.

geez, thats awesome! I have a similar, but much smaller display from my colonial site. I only hit it once this yr after it was plowed for about 3 hrs because the farmer immediately seeded it. Anyway AWESOME FINDS AWESOME SITE!

Sweet looking copper, it's always a huge bonus when the soils are kind to the coppers.

Whoops I just realized I forgot to mention the Vermont coin which is in the display case just to the right of the 1793 Liberty cap cent I found in the same field.

Thanks for the pic , GKman 8-) that field is layered with some nice targets , looking forward to viewing more that you find . I missed the lib cap , that is a Top Shelf coin and one rare bird for sure ! , WTG gkman :censored: that's awesome !! dawg

Beautiful coin! Must have been in an area that drained just right.

That is an interesting point I never thought of. That whole field is on a slope and its not too gradual either so I wonder if that may have had some hand in keeping that coin as nice as is it.
