Isnt ALL land privately owned?

reply

Lots of places in SW Texas owned by state and feds. Wide open to hunting, fishing, treasure hunting. Not marked on maps. Talk to locals or friends that go. Have been doing it since I was a kid. FREE, FREE, FREE and a fairly well-kept secret...

Austin, I would agree with you. Same for CA: lots of state, fed, county, etc.... land that we too just hike out, research spots, and go. Because not all fed land is "federal park" land. And not all state land is "state park". However, with that said, I can not resist adding this jibe: while you and I, and scores of others have probably just always simply hiked, walked, skipped stones on ponds, and even md'd without ever-a-problem on such places ....... yet: I bet if you asked enough bureaucrats, in enough offices, using the right combination of buzzwords ("treasure", "dig", "artifact" and "indian bone") that even on such innocuous places where no one truly cares, that you can indeed find a "no".

Most people that would have given permission if asked won't if they catch you on their property without asking and you can't really blame them as it shows disrespect for them and their property. HH
