I'd search Tnet as someone has probably posted a way to test for silver.

Art deco design with the lines.
Clean it up a bit in this area.
Looks like a shield mark.
Left side of case.
Lower right-hand portion.
Try some baking soda and a bit of water.

Found this cigarette case awhile back. I've had someone tell me it looks like it but wanted to ask you guys.
An old silver test I use just for basic ID is the finger rub... Plating will give a good indication like this too..
But if you rub it with your finger and it leaves a BLACK mark its got at least plated silver, its my basic go to test for things I find at yard sales and such... Like I said, it won't tell you if its sterling but outside is silver if you get a black mark on rubbing it..

The letters are 'GHF' and that's the mark for G. H. French & Co of North Attleboro, Massachusetts. The company was active from c. 1920 until the late 1930s when it was absorbed by the Ellmore Silver Company.
Thanks red coat

What's the best way to clean tarnish so I don't ruin this piece? I don't trust what google tells me
