Interesting, do you have any references for this? To my understanding all genuine 1943 cents have the southwest pointing 3, that's one of the identifiers to tell genuine from an altered 1948 or 1945. The date is in the working hub and shouldn't change from die to die.'steel head' is a rainbow trout on a spawning run. But your cent seems to be the die variety with the SW pointing 3. Fairly rare.
I dun recall where I read that. But try an image search, IIRC the SW is rare.Interesting, do you have any references for this? LOL. I just did a search, check thisOK, did a lot of searching even questioned some dedicated Lincoln variety collectors and did find what you must have read. It's as I suspected, southwest pointing three is a diagnostic for identifying the rare 1943 bronze, to make sure it isn't an altered 1945 or 1948. All genuine 1943's had the SW pointing three, so if a bronze one didn't, it was altered. It doesn't help much these days because now most of the fakes are made in China with proper details, composition and weight. Been collecting for 55 years and thought there was a variety I hadn't heard of, thanks for stirring up a dusty old mind, it needs it once in a while!
Seeing as how all working dies are made from the master die I don't see how there can be a different "3"'steel head' is a rainbow trout on a spawning run. But your cent seems to be the die variety with the SW pointing 3. Fairly rare.
Exactly, while there can be some minor differences due to die wear, die polishing and the like the orientation and overall shape of the lettering, date and devices cannot change. While I certainly may be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, and I'm willing to keep an open mind, none of the grading companies or variety specialists recognize such a variety.Seeing as how all working dies are made from the master die I don't see how there can be a different "3"
