Is this a Civil War button?

Found this by my old inn site. It looks like a Civil War button, but has hooks and catches and not a post on the back. It is a little larger than a penny as you can see in one of the pics. There are no markings on the back. I would appreciate any help with this, thanks.

Looks like a button from a sweetheart belt. Button companies made them with tabs or loops on the sides, instead of a shank in the middle, so that they could be linked together to form a belt or chain. The pattern is that of a U.S. general service eagle button, in use from the mid 19th century until 1902.
