Is there THing after Knee Surgery

Had my left knee done in 1990 (I got my kneecap splintered by a horse landing on it when it fell back in the 60's, and the healed parts had grown many calcifications and was "sawing" away at the cartilage).

I wish I had not waited so long - yea - it was very unhandy at first, and going downstairs was a trick, (and, it hurt - but they gave me drugs for that). But, if I knew then what I know now, I would have done it MUCH sooner.

I had it done in May, and was able to spend the entire summer in Alaska, prospecting, etc. Before surgery, my left knee would just "disappear" - like it wasn't there, and I would fall down when I least expected it.

Now, 18 years later (its supposed to last about 10 years), I will probably need to get it done again, but when the time comes, I will definitely do it. (its been acting up for the last couple of years).

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your inspiration. I have been back and enjoying the hobby again. The left knee hurts at times, and no, I can't kneel down much, so I only crouch now, but it works. So again, thanks for the motivating words...HH

If you are having a tough time kneeling to dig up a target why not get a partner.

Some young kid who does not know the value of the things he be digging up for you.

For some reason this reminds me of Treasure Island, Long John Silver, and young Jim Hawkins.

Hey, you got a parrot??????

Had my knees scoped yesterday, in fact, one was minus much of the cartalege. Have any of you gone through this and been able to get back into detecting? I already miss it.

Well.. I can't answer this for myself.. my my Father, rest his soul, went for another 10 years after having both knees done!! He also had 4 vert fused in his lower back... now.. there were many times where I had to finish digging whatever he found... but I'm not sure if it was because he couldn't.. or was just scamming me to get me to finish digging!! Heck.. I dug 4 Civil War plates "for him" over the years.. and one really.. really nice one piece Virginia button!!!! So.. yes... you can... the only thing he did was get a taller shovel so he did not have to bend quite as far... worked ok!! MD'ing is one of those hobbies that makes you.. push through the pain ;-) read.. most of us are nuts!! Normal, rational people to not go out and dig when it is 20 degrees and snowing.. or dig all day in the pouring rain!! ah.. err... not that I have done that!! ;-) so... have hope... you will be back out before you know it!!

I had an ACL replaced about 9 years ago and it only slowed me down a little.

However, 9 years later, both knees hurt after 4 or 5 hours hunting.

I had off shoulder (left) scoped 2 weeks ago (Jan 10) and if it would warm enough to thaw the ground, I'd go hit a spot or two for a few hours even though the doc said I had very little cartlidge left and is mosty bone on bone. Total replacement due in 5-10 years he said depending on my pain.

I had ACL replacement and munixcus repair in Dec 2004 in Aug 2005 I deployed to Iraq for 16 months and was almost as good as new. With alot of physical activity and the cold sometimes it bothers me a little. It hasnt slowed me down that much I still do tons of prospecting and walking. If you do the phys therapy correct and dont skim out on it you shouldn't be too affected. That was my 2nd surgery on that knee in 10 years (different injuries each time ) But I hope you the best of recovery I know how much a pain in the "knee" it is but you should do fine as long as during recovery you do not over do anything.

I totaled my left knee in a Motorcycle crash, Everything ,broke knee cap all cartilage, and ligaments, hurt so bad I tried to stand on it and it bent backwards ! They opened it up and stapled it all back together , was layed up for about 3 months. Anyway that was 25 years ago, it still doesn't bend all the way so I just go down on my right knee and leave it sticking out. What I'm trying to say , if you want to do something bad enough you will find a way. You will be out there on bended knee digging holes in no time !
