Hello everyone,
I am still trying to find out what this is and now I see there are a lot more people coming to the forum. So I thought I would give it another try and post it again and see if some one could figure it out. I found this about 8 inches deep around an old school in Paint Rock Alabama. There was supposed to be some Civil War activity in this area but I didn’t find anything there but this and some old change.
I appreciate any the help,
Southernbandit

not water because the base would be threaded not a powder horn because it would not have those pod like feet at the botton and would be curved at the bottom (I have one)
would be tough with out something in comparison and is the top plug solid or hollow

Hey Bill,
Sorry I took so long, my wife had put it up and I couldn't find it.
The top plug has a hole about 3/4 of the way up in it and it will only
screw on from one side. This thing has puzzled me for years.

Portable flute stand. Assembled the flut sets down onto the flanges. Disassembled it fits in the pocket.

Just a guess.

With the knurled knob it was meant to be assembled and disassembled often.

looks like it might have been used to turn the sprinkler system on? by the type of metal it's made of [brass] it could be part of a vintage sprinkler system?
