Is Florida for me?

One major benefit living in Florida, NO State, NO County income tax. This can drastically reduce your cost of living.

From Tampa, on a clear day, we can see the rocket launches at Cape Canaveral. Loved watching the shuttle launches from here.

We seem to have less issues with big storms (hurricanes) in West Central Florida as well. And of course over here we have the Bolts, the Rays and one of these days the Bucs will return.

Yea I seem to be falling in love with that area as we'll, Clearwater seems to be an area I really like. Your right though about the storms, seems to be an area not affected that much.

Right now we rented a house in emerald island, love it. Not too far away I noticed some kind of compound that has been shut down for a while. Would love to get in there with my detector!

Stay away from the east coast....all that 1715 fleet stuff you read about is just fantasy, it never really happened, nothing really along these beaches. Nobody ever comes here to swim or to play on these beaches. It's just marketing. In four years of metal detecting these beaches I've only found one dime. West coast is much, much better.

Lot of money to be made here if your in the right field, if not, your looking at 8 - 9 - 10 hr
You would need a good field.
Plenty of nice homes and cars here, the money has to come from somewhere
I'm in the St Pete Clearwater area, thers so much to do and see its amazing.
I will never ever move back to new england with their Yankee attitudes and so on

Yup I had mentioned how I like the Clearwater area, beaches have sand like talcum powder. My inlaws are about to retire and are here with us vacationing in disney. They hired a broker to show them some houses in Clearwater after I told them how nice it is there. And you know what, honestly, it's not really the "Yankee" attitude that's the problem up here, it's the people that can't even spell Yankee that are destroying where I'm from. I love going upstate to my cabin in New York to hunt, fish, meal detect, and a lot of people up there were once from Long Island. They too grew tired of the "change".

So we are at universal right now, man it's freaking hot! I did promise myself I wouldn't complain about the heat after the winter we had in New York. Inlaws drove to Clearwater to look for a winter home. Life is good right now!

I'm a Florida native and would not live anywhere else. I love to travel and see other places but never have any desire to move. Florida has its problems like anywhere else but sub zero temps. is not one of them. Please continue to visit, spend all your money, then scoot on home! I really don't mind tourists and try to show them places us locals enjoy that they would never hear about otherwise. My least favorite place is Orlando. It is not really Florida but just a tourist trap. Still if someone likes it, fine. I'm a few blocks from the beach, fish year round, and know where all the cheap cold beer is. So come down, just don't stay it's getting too crowded with all you Yankees!

Tennessee is getting its fair share of "half backs"!! That is the people that move from up north to Florida and don't like the year round heat or whatever reason and move half(way) back, which is somewhere in Tennessee!!

Hey guys, I really don't want this thread turning into a south, north, somewhere in the middle, west coast, east coast, blah, blah, blah thing. We are all in the same boat and it's sinking. Soooooo, let's just enjoy all the great aspects of where we are from and remember how great this country really is. I was having a discussion with my wife and we decided from now on all our vacations would be to some state/states in the USA. Starting with a drive from New York to the Florida keys. Most people have no idea how beautiful our country is and I want to show my children all of it. It is by the way, you know, where they were born.
