I dug up this piece of iron yesterday and I have no idea what it is. It looks like a tooth but it's too small to be from an excavator. Does anyone have any idea what this solid piece of heavy iron is?

Hard to say...................I have a large box of pick points that have been broke from the picks, and used as wedges.....smashed ends from hitting them with a sledge,to break rock

This is probably a very likely explanation as there are several large granite blocks on the property that were worked quite extensively at some point. The reason I didn't think of that is because I found it a ways away from where the granite is. Probably was used like you said, to chisel the stone with a sledge hammer.

I'm in southern Maine so not a lot of mining going on here. I think they were splitting large granite blocks to be used for foundations of houses. Most of the really old houses around here have granite foundations.

In the area where most of the granite is there is a small granite foundation where they must have had some structure but it's not very big. Maybe a food storage shed or something. I need to explore the area more carefully to see if there are any other remains of old structures up there. So far all I've found up there is old square nails.

Funny enough I found an old file today less than 100 yards from where I found the pick/wedge. This file was probably used to sharpen the pick! I also found another half Ox shoe, was hoping it was the match to the other half I found before but it doesn't seem to be.
