I dug this at a colonial era cellar hole. I’ve dug a number of coins, buttons and shoe buckle parts that date to this time period, late 1700s to early 1800s. I dug this item on the lip of the cellar hole. It’s approximately 6 inches long, tapered point or spike, the eye is roughly an inch and a half in diameter. I have no ideas, hoping someone here can help with an ID. 0A5633A1-6CFA-4890-B495-5B1CC8FCABEE.jpeg4AC6D2F0-9506-4A5E-9C7E-3CF0A2DAF43E.jpeg76FC945F-B4EC-4C52-8D3D-7DCD686CA35B.jpeg

Possibly a handle from a scythe or hay rake. The loop fits over the longer main handle and a smaller wood handle fits over the spike.

It reminds me of a candle holder used in a mine or cave... for what it's worth! Thanks for posting.

Charlie P. I never would have thought of that. Seems very likely, thank you. From what I can see it’s identical to the post you recalled Villagenut.
