Insurance Tyrants!

I dream of someday having a group of people that pool their money together for their homes, cars, health, or any group they want to join. Then, when there is a loss, be it from a herd of elephants, tornadoes, hurricanes, meteorites, fire, vandalism... anything bad, they take money out of the pool and replace what they lost.

~oh and get this, the people managing the money pool are allowed to make (no more, no less) an average good living wage for administering the program.

What a concept... maybe one day...

Or they could save the money themselves and they wouldn't have to pay for the administration GIB.
I don't think the pilgrims did very well with that experiment either.

Ummm... if all the average people could save enough money to replace their home, car, or whatever, at any given time, insurance would have never been invented.

And it wasn't the pilgrims- the Chinese actually invented the concept.

If average people pooled their money they wouldn't be able to afford a catastrophe like rampaging elephants, especially after giving some of it away to a bureaucrat.

But I didn't say anything about the Chinese?
"What most of us never learned was that the original contract the Pilgrims brokered with their London sponsors required that everything the Pilgrims produced was to go into a common store, and every member was to be allotted one equal share. Further, all the land they cleared and all the buildings they constructed were to belong the whole community."

Governor Bradford:
"The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s and other ancients applauded by some of later times; that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this community (so far as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontent and ****** much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For the young men, that were most able and fit for labour and service, did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men’s wives and children without any recompense."

The problem with this grand plan is human nature.

On the other hand, the state of Israel seems to have done pretty well with a socialist system. "Kibbutz" doesn't mean watching other people playing a game and offering free advice.

Good luck to all,

People want a socialist state move to one. America was not founded as a socialist country, our fathers, grandfather's and forefathers did not fight and die to build or defend a socialist country.....

I would certainly agree with you that we have a very different economic system here in the US of A. And there aren't any major political leaders interested in instituting socialism.

I do think it's a good idea that we keep our commitments and continue to defend the nation of Israel - whether it continues to be a socialist system or not.

Good luck to all,

Does this bit of fluff have a point? Are you on the wrong thread again?

You are better then this. I've seen you make some great insightful posts but then you fall back into this kind of stuff. Why not rise above it all? Don't let some of members on this site who insult bring you down to their level.

Oh but Crispin, there is a point. Book is not even staying on the topic.. and I could ask you, can you think of any way that Israel can be compared to us? Is it land mass? Population? Being surrounded by countries that vow your destruction? What does the us have in common with Israel ? He has no point. Again.

No book is a child. Trying to fight whoever he can. Sounds like an ex member.

Dave44:

Your silly insults say a great deal about you - and nothing about me.

It's a common claim by right wing nutz' that socialism has never worked. Israel is obvious proof that it has.

Treasure Hunter wrote we shouldn't defend socialist nations. I pointed out we should defend Israel.

If you can't follow the conversation don't blame me.

Well maybe you can enlighten us why socialism works there? And how does that parallel our country. Is it possible to defend your argument here? Nope

Your mind wasn't able to grasp what TH said.. you should read it again. But then,, you don't care what he said,, you just want an argument. Sorry your intellect leaves you out of big boy discussions.

Dave44:

Why does socialism work there? Because the people there make it work.

Why are some of the strongest economies in Western Europe nations that many here would call socialistic? Why does Finland have a national health care system that appears to work just fine?

What does that mean to us? Other than the obvious fact smart people learn from people who are successful?

One of your many problems is your premise is fatally flawed. No major political figure in the US of A is pushing socialism.

Good luck to all,
