Indian Wars "US" Army buckle display

Well Folks, it took awhile but I finally finished making the display for the Indian Wars "US" buckle and bullet I dug back in March.
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,389652.html

I figured they needed to be displayed proudly after being buried for 100+ years.
My woodburning technique is a bit rusty but I think you can tell they are arrows in the wood. I was going to try to make other symbols but didn't want to push my luck. :laughing7:
The Indian design ribbon gave the display an extra boost in color.
Thanks to Tnet member "Kuger" for telling me about the Time/Life book "The Soldiers". I was to not only able to use that book ($10 on Ebay) as a background, but in the book I was able to salvage photos of this exact buckle being wore by Indian scouts and US soldiers. :icon_thumleft: Along with those photos, on the back of the display I will keeping patent info on this Anson Mills buckle, and photos of when I dug the buckle. Basically the history to go with the display.
The only thing I have left to add to the display is an engraved metal plate on the front with a description of the items.

Have a great weekend everyone and be safe. :occasion17: :hello:

Very nice detailed work on the display Doug! :notworthy:

I don't think the average person takes the time to appreciate what the context was for these artifacts.
Your display helps put the relic in perspective of time period and place! :icon_thumright:

Well Done,
Dave

Thanks so much guys. I think I have some of my great-grandfathers blood. He was a big collector and also a taxidermist. A lot of his displays are in our hometown museum for all to enjoy. I'm glad he preserved his stuff too.

I thought the use of the book as the background was super! The manly ribbon is ok, but the .45-70 is studly!

LMAO! :laughing9: Thanks HPD.

Re: Indian Wars "US" Army buckle display

Wow :o
An outstanding piece of work..
From the work on the period look frame, the 'leather'bound book,
the masculine ribbon, all bring the relics into clear focus.
Thanks for showing this inspirational work

Looks GOOD MM and NO, I was not there and that's NOT my buckle. HH, Q.

Q,
You really are sharp as a tack at your age. You beat me to the punch. :laughing9:

The reason he wasn't there is because the buckle belonged to his Grandson.

LMAO Dman. You still got it buddy.
Thanks,
Dug
You two famous relic hunter and magazine author CLOWNS are killing me-LOL. You are the best on Tnet at displaying your finds MM and FULLY EXPECT to find a Banner each time you go. That's cool confidence!! HH, Q.

Re: Indian Wars "US" Army buckle display

MM, That is one COOL looking display. I really like it.
It gives me an idea. My mother salvaged an old window frame from the house she was born and raised in. I think I'll try to recover some older coins or other relics from that site and see if I can create a window frame display.

Thanks !!!!! :notworthy:

Re: Indian Wars "US" Army buckle display

Yes, I also make some displays for friends with some of the bullets I find.

That is a really nice looking display MM,can tell you took a lot of time in the planning and building of it,it almost looks like you used old square nails as well? Im pretty sure you made up the part about the fabric store though because Im almost positive that is the same ribbon that was on your dress a couple of years ago :tongue3: ...shoot
