This is my 3rd year hunting this site and some of the finds over the past 3 years have been very cool!
smiley-happy088.gif
Such as a 1900 Barber Dime, a 1916 Merc, a 1949 Washington, at least 12 Canadian silver dimes, 6 silver quarters, two silver 5c. pieces, 2 silver rings, a bus driver's badge, many large Canadian Pennies. I even found the schools original hand-held bell!
:laughing7:

History behind the school . . .

The Myrtle School was a one-room schoolhouse built in 1880 and educated the local kids on this site for 98 years. It was a board and batten building and was covered with insubrick in the late 1940s. In July 1940, the building was raised and a basement was built underneath, the building was demolished in 1978. The property is now a rural park setting and sees very little use due to its remote location in the country. In 1915 a local school inspector stated in his report that, "The Myrtle School is very drafty and the stove had to be stoked with wood frequently to keep the school comfortable for the children." Upon inspection of the outdoor toilets he noted, "The doors have not been properly maintained and allow the snow to collect in the seating areas."

I've pretty much covered every inch of this 1/2 acre lot, today I worked the hills at the rear and to the west of the property for 3 hrs. My first find of the morning was the glass animal vaccination bottle, looks to be from the 1950's or 60's?
:icon_scratch: I then dug the 1919 Canadian LC, followed by the metal object that looks like it might have been the top to a walking stick. I currently have the drawer handle and the 'walking stick top' in the tumbler / polisher for cleaning and will post pics of the end result! Overall not too bad of a day!

Thanks for looking,
Dave

I wonder if that cane top was on the stick the teacher smacked the kids with? Cool finds

Dig until your arm falls off

Nice finds...I really like that cane topper!

Thanks romeo!
Depending on how it looks after tumbling, I'm considering getting a stick to put it on!

That is some cool stuff! I like the walking stick handle as well.
The more ornate a man's cane corresponded with his wealth. You will be considered a very wealthy man! (Of course that is according to another century's standards) Ha Ha!!

Went there a couple of weekends ago after trying to walk around in a certain demo. park that had 3+ inches of water over it, the fields looked the same so it wasn't going to happen. Too much rain at times this year to get out in the fields, well there's the fall still to look forward to I hope.

Nice mitt of silvers. :icon_thumright:

I hear you about the 'demo park' J, I was there a couple of weeks ago and all I found were modern coins. There are a lot of low wet spots in that park. I keep thinking there might still be something in the area to the east next to the 'wind turbine field' boundary. I guess I was just too late in getting there, although I might give it one more try the next time I'm down your way! :laughing7:

How's your silver count for the year?

Dave
