I'm thinking Naval two piece button, but maybe earlier than the 20's or early 50's

I took my EQ800 in the back yard playing with it. I didn't expect to find anything back there, I've used most every detector I've had over the years in that back yard. I got a steady 13 on TID for this.

I'm thinking it's naval related as my uncle was late 40's navy, and my grandfather was WWI navy.

It was a two piece button, and the loop on the back broke off as I was wiping the muddy dirt from it.

So, here it is:

Edited to add photo of the back:

Actually, the black finish on your great seal button makes it a 1910-1923 version. I can't make out the whole backmark but I think it says City Button Works NY which also makes it WW1 vintage. It is not Navy but it is Army.

That's interesting! I went back downstairs to talk with Mom (92) again about it, and she said that would have been from her Great Uncle Charley, who was WWI army.

My maternal ancestors settled this farm probably early to middle 1700's.

I was so delighted the way this find evolved from just me getting out with the EQ for the first simple real hunt. I put this button in my heated ultrasonic cleaner for 10 minutes and took new pics:
