Hi, I recently got my first metal detector and as I had access to a local field I decided to do some detecting there to see if I could find anything. I didn't find much but did find this and have no idea what it could be!
It doesn't attract to a magnet and does have some markings/pattern (where my thumb nail is on the first pic). Anybody got any ideas? I'm sure it's not anything but just wanted to check.

Thanks,

Spinkoli

Ah okay! Thanks for the reply! Didn't think that it was anything much but thought that I'd check. Cheers

It's melted aluminum, but it could of been something grand for sure.
It has to be dug from the soils to see as it could very well be hundreds if not thousands of yrs old also.
At least it shows that the machine is working, and it comes down to dig enough holes and we'll be rewarded (It's a numbers game digging in your soils). Best of luck

Thanks! I've had the detector for a couple of weeks and have only just started looking and digging so hopefully something will come of it! Can frill myself getting slightly addicted to it already!

Whatever that rang up as, dig ALL signals that ring up similarly. As has been said, this time it was melted aluminum, a fairly common find depending on the type of site you’re on. Non-ferrous trash like that will trip you up on occasion, but it could have just as easily been a small silver coin of some kind, or an old copper.

Doesn't it have markings? Did people ever make aluminum bullets? I just read the Finnish tried to make bullets out of nickel Iin the 40's. You have rust on it. I also just read it has to be an iron alloy to rust.
