Hey everyone,

Been a good three months since my last post. It was by far the worst summer here in P.a in the past 10 yrs. I did very little hunting here this summer. It was so hot dry and miserable you couldn't hunt. I also got a promotion at work about 2 months back and I have been very busy.

So with the combo of the 2 I haven't been out a whole lot until the past few weeks. Don't get me wrong I would get out here and there for a few hrs but that was about it. This is my time of yr to get out again in full force. I started getting up really early on the weekends and putting some time in again.

I have made a few decent finds but most of the time it was just a few keepers here and there. However I came across a great site guys. But unfortunately it was off limits. It was a city park in a very wealthy neighborhood. I was there no more than 10 minutes and pulled out 2 mercs and a LC. My brother pulled a merc and my son a half dollar.

Then all the sudden here comes a cop car. He pulls up and says this park is off limits. We basically begged and pleaded with the officer to let us stay. But he said because of politics basically we couldn't hunt this park. If we did we would have gotten a 25.00 dollar fine. I said to him well just write me my fine and I will see you later lol.

I tried hard to get permission for the site but got no call back on it. Bummer because I have a feeling this place was loaded. It was a very beautiful park to. Oh well I had to move onto other sites. I probably would have found 150 silvers by now if that park would have been open to hunt. I was told it was for walking and relaxing not treasure hunting it's all bull.

Still gets under my skin though. I pulled a LC out at 13 with the spectra. I was really impressed. But the soil conditions were some of the best I ever saw. It really is a shame they will let items just rot away than let me recover them and restore them for the future. Nothing to rare but enough to keep me going.

These past few weekends have been really good to me. I have pulled out about 50 old coins in the past 6 hrs in the field. I really am starting to get the spectra down pat. Pretty soon here I will be getting into some foundations when all this stuff dies out. Once again it has been as really bad hot and dry season.

I see just a small window this fall here to be open for hunting. I am going to make the best of it. Good luck to all and thanks for viewing.

very nice haul. personally i'd have gone back and taken the $25 fine...a few silvers and you've more than paid for that dinky little ticket

Usually we do not rock the boat on trying to ask permission when we do not think it is necessary, like a city park. I call BS on this one though. The officer has already told you it is because of politics. Time to rub elbows with the real politicians at the next city council meeting. By then you will have quietly done your homework and found out that some old busy body lives on the edge of the park and thinks that it is her job to be police, judge and executioner. The police answer her every call because she knows some body. Did the police officer ever say what the ticket would be for? Probably not.


Do your home work, print the city parks regulations, if there are any and go carefully dig alot more holes. I would say to watch the obituaries, but you never know how long it will take.

Thanks alot everyone.

I need to be a little more clear on the subject. It was a borough park. Also it is in the middle of a very classy part of town. Yes, a old neighbor came out onto the porch I saw her. Then ten minutes later we were kicked out.

I asked the officer if I could gain permission and he said you won't get it. We demonstrated how neat and clean our holes were. He had nothing to say but you can't do this here. He then told me in this borough it is a ordinance to dig holes like that.

I called the parks department left a message and was never gotten back to. It is a shame. It is more than 20 acres big and I would say it was never touched. No litter at all. Just pure deep good signals. And the soil is so rich and sandy there to.

I would have really liked to hunt this place. I guess you really need to know someone. I was kicked out just because some nosy rich neighbor thinks they own the park.


I told the officer I will pay the fine now if you let me hunt the place for a few hrs. That was a no go though. I let it go though. I do have other sites but this one would have been that honey hole for me this season.

I found this place by accident to one sunday. I was going to a old site and the rd was closed. So I did a little driving came across this great little park and said hey no one is gonna care if were here. But I was wrong. After we started hitting keepers I said to my son and brother be as neat as you can be incase we get approached.

Jer,
Don't give up on the park; it might become available in the future, you never know! Why don't you try finding the owner of the class ring? Any initials? A return like that, with a little publicity, can't hurt. Let the police know that you are able to find (and occasionally return) lost rings. At 20 acres, maybe another section of the park will be more isolated. Look at old aerial views to see if wooded areas now were once open. It's frustrating to know of a good site that you can't have!

hate dem kinda peeps dat wana call de cops go to city hall and make them print u a city wide permit.. even if u do not need one.. might help...most times i will check with the city halls if i need to.. good luck good finds, sneak in there if u have to MR TUFF

Man nice bunch of digs!! I have had the cops called on me before by some nosey neighbors or drivers by. Many times cops will just tell you to leave with out knowing if its illegal or not to hunt.

Amazing coins... The Indian Heads are in great shape. I guess my Fisher F4 just can't compete with the machine that you have. The F4 is a good detector but every time I go somewhere I say the same thing... "I know there has to be coins here". They must be too deep. Good job...
