Illinois CRH for March 2009

I had to run to one of my pickup banks today on my lunch break, while I was there the vault teller said that he has 2 boxes of half's if I'm interested. This was cool because I didn't order them but the vault teller figured I was sick or something so he put in an order for me anyways. Well I only had the funds to get 1 box and I will get the other box after work once I dump my rejects. Well The 2nd to last roll had a nice silver edge, it was a 1968d. Hopefully the other box will have at least 1 keeper in it but I am not gonna get my hopes up. :-\

Saved right before the end :) Congrats on your '68d!

Oh man, that second box is going to be a DREAM BOX! :occasion14:

My head teller at my main bank set me up on a reoccurring order every week for 2 boxes... now I just have to go pick them up every week. That's so cool!

Sweet TimmmyD! Sometimes it's a steady drip, sometimes it's like the faucet in ON.. other times it's like Al Gore is standing over your shoulder waving his finger saying, "aht aht ahhhh..." and the faucet is clamped shut. Keep at it and you'll have your sink overflowing before you know it

It doesn't get better than old silver on the end of the roll! Sweeeet!

I pick up 4 boxes of halves tomorrow... barber half here I come!

I hope one of getts one sometime!!!!

Well, TCF screwed me again and did not order my 2 boxes for me, 2 weeks in a row now. Every time I go there it seems like there's new employees. No fees or not, they better start shapin' up and stop wasting my time.

My main branch came through like baby delivered in 5 minutes, so I had 2 boxes to search today.

Got 6 40%'ers and 1 1971-s proof (reverse perfect, obverse a little blackened but otherwise perfect).

Not feeling like taking pictures again... I'm still kind of sick and lazy.

That sucks - well at least you found some keepers though!!! My problem is that I get very poor percentage of silver, hell I have done twice as much $ wise but you still found more, you pirate!!!! :o :icon_pirat: Hopefully they get it in gear and get you your damn boxes soon!!!

I've got about 5 lucky boxes for sure... but I still get skunk boxes every now and then, but not too bad. I think that's what's really doing it.

I would of posted this when I first got to work at 7pm but our power was out and ComEd just got it back on!!!

With the weather so bad today I went to my Sunday bank in hopes that I could get 2 dime boxes, well they said that they are low and couldn't sell me any boxes. So I then asked if they have any old coins, foreign, or tokens that I could have - they all know that I collect coins from asking me in the past. The teller was in her early 20's slid a SLQ over to me!!!! She asked if I wanted it or not and I tried to keep my cool and not grin ear to ear & said "yea, I guess I'll take it" LOL. I asked where she got it from, she said that she found it in the reject bin in the lobby coin counter. It is dateless and super thin but its mine and I got it for 25 cents!!!!

WOW! I saw the picture and was thinking, "nobody EVER seems to find any silver when CRH quarters... and you found a SLQ! oh this should be a good read" HEH! Nice find TF!

At another one of my banks ther is an older teller and one day she asked me out of the blue if I wanted to buy any silver? I asked what are you talking about, she said that she has been pulling every piece of silver that she came in contact with and was looking to sell some. At the time I said nah I would rather find my own but now I'm thinking about asking how much she has and how much per coin. She said she doesn't know the value just that they are silver so if I could get them cheap I will.

Im thinking about offering:
50c = dime
$1 = quarter
$1.50 = 40%
$2.50 = 90%
$3 = for Franklins or older

Not the best deal but she would make some quick money. :icon_pirat:

If you're interested offer her double face value only. She'll take it and run.

Remember the grade of the average CRH coin, it's not exactly stellar and the likelyhood of getting a real keeper is astronimcally against you. Also remember your scrap values. Don't forget to mention to her that your interested in gold coinage as well should it come in in any format.

Tim I think you would be surprised at the average level of the conditions of the coins found during CRH, many many are in XF+ condition. And I would only buy for the purpose of the silver but need I remind you that out of my 5 Walkers found, 1 was a 1938d Walker in VF - XF condition and its worth just under $200. Rare ones are out there and so are plenty of very sharp coins that wouldn't get rejected from slabbing company's due to environmental damage as you would get 99% of the time with dug coins.

I'm with Tim, offer double face and that'll probably be good enough. Before actually offering that though, see what they have and offer them a lump sum for the pot. That's one way of making an offer sound like a lot more... especially if you're good with math and they are not. You're not trying to screw anyone, but if they want to give you a deal, graciously receive one.

Speaking of deals, I can't tell you how many people try to haggle with me when I have had garage sales in the past. I learned to expect it and buffered my prices up a little from what I really would accept. Everyone wants a deal.

I'm going to have to agree with Tim and Brett. She didn't pay anything for them, she's lucky you're giving her double for coins she payed face for. Offer her double and try not to make it seem like a business transaction...you're just a coin collector interested in the older coins. She'll appreciate your innate enthusiasm and fascination toward the coins. If she notices that you've done the math with prices, she might hesitate, and check out the prices in a Red Book or something. Who knows.

I hope she's got some nice coins, and that you get them for a great price. Are we getting out on Saturday?

Joe

I got 3 more silver Rosies today from 1 box of dimes. Hopefully I can keep up my average of 50 silver Rosies a month!!! :icon_pirat:

Hell yea I'm down for going out on Sat!!!

Aw man, clue me in on Sunday and I'll try to make a go at it.

Whoa, Fiend, didn't know they were turning the good stuff. Hope you get gold out of her sometime, and of course, drop it in front of me at a hunt!

Great box Timmmyd! 2 dimes is usually my average per box, so an addition Merc is wonderful!
