I wish I hadn't sold it !

Dear MD'ers,
Anyone feel the same as I do? It was 15 years ago but I still remember it clearly. I wanted to buy a new detector. I was short on having enough money. Instead of waiting till I had the money saved I sold some of my previous finds. The list reads: 1# 1897 Ks. dog tag, 2# Hardware tokens 1800's, 7# college class rings, and one Bluemoon Saloon token no date. I don't want to buy them back. I feel like they were part of me by finding them. I just wondered if I was alone in doing something like this? Let me know your thoughts members.

i sold alot of finds over the years, to buy new detectors, alot i wish i would of kept, but then i might not of found, the other items i did wwith out my new detector, all you can hope for is better finds, and try to keep them. i think most of us been there before. i have rings from 25 years ago. people still ask me sell this to me pls. but i just say, not right now. because i dont need the money right now.

Re: I wish I hadn't sold it !

I think I know what you're saying. I have some old coins and artifacts that were my first finds back in the late 60's. Back before I was married and still free to do pretty much as I pleased. ?Many times when the money got low I thought about selling the stuff but never could bring myself to do it.

So I plan to clean up those old coins, buttons, etc., and mount them in a frame for my office.

Anyway, I feel for you. It's not that material things mean so much to us. It's more what they represent that matters.

I still have my first BB gun. I won it in a drawing at our local "Copes" Hardware in Spring Lake Michigan back in 1957. My first day out with it I broke the neighbors power meter box! ?;D ?Oh, I still remember the cops trying to get me to fess-up. ?;D

Memories...memories...memories!

Your exactly right Zeb. I would much rather see those rings posted and in a display case. On the other hand rjnail is right I have found some great keepers since then.

Careful Zeb, you'll shoot your eye out! I've still got my BB Gun, a Daisy Red Ryder just like Ralphie. :D

Don't laugh I swear to god it happened to me! I just didn't lose my eye.

Re: I wish I hadn't sold it !

About 10 years after I started detecting, I saw an ad in the newspaper where a guy wanted to buy tokens. At the time, I didn't know anything about them, so I called him to take a look at what I had. I remember he offered me $10.00 (or about 25 cents apeice) for all that I had. I later remember finding out that at least one was worth $10.00. I'm sure that a few weren't even worth 25 cents, but I hate to think what I might have gotten for the better ones if I would have waited and got a second opinion. But at the time I felt like I got a fair price.
The Moral: Don't always take the first offer you receive. I should have done a little more research on them before I sold.

I think I sold the dog tag for $10. I do remember his hand shaking when I handed it to him. I then had that sick feeling in my stomach that I goofed.

He who buyeth coin from market place of men is not at all like he who diggeth one.

Can U dig it?

Re: I wish I hadn't sold it !

I used to have quite a bit of coins and jewelry at one time but had to part with them for financial reasons so I don't have them in hand to look at but I can close my eyes and remember a lot of them. Now I don't have that pressure so I can enjoy them better if I can just remember where all the boxes are. ;D Kind of like finding them all over again. ;)

Re: I wish I hadn't sold it !

Other than the small amount of gold and silver I have found, the rest is just junk to anyone but me! However, I've never even considred selling it! I would most likely give it to someone who really wanted it than sell it. Monty
