If it's a car badge, then most likely 1920s or newer. My guess is 1950s or newer, due to condition, it just doesn't look chewed up enough to be really old.

Congrats and good luck brother!

Depth is not a very good judge of age unfortunately. I've found modern clad at depths they just shouldn't be at. Don't recall any St Christopher cars though. Maybe it's off a religious piece?

What's the other side look like? Is it totally flat? Steel? Brass? Maybe a belt buckle?

Actually ST. Christopher's medals and Guardian Angel items are still very popular for mounting in or on a car somewhere....back in the day when cars were more of a new thing they were even more popular.
Visor clips are one of the most popular forms these things come in.
Here is a Guardian Angel type I found in an old home site once, might have been mounted on a visor of an old Model T for all I know.
I'd like to think so, anyway.

All of the old Catholic women I know have something like this in their cars... along with Kleenex, gum, mints, lipstick... you get
the idea.

They also used to have little Virgin Mary's on the dashboard.

Can't tell from the photo, was is silver plated? If it's all worn off, that took a long time. Also because of the amount of surface area, it probably didn't sink too fast, so eight inches deep could be old.

I hunted there before. It the oldest City Park in New Orleans. It has 800 Years old Oaks in there.I've gotten V-nickels out of there at 7".. But I do agree that depth isn't always a indicator of age.
