Whites MXT
With the MD bug. I bought my Whites MXT about 2 years ago and went out a few times in the spring of 2004.

I found a few common coins and a lead toy Indian. Then I lost interest.

Over the last 2-3 months I've been reading this site and others. Mostly this site and I see where you all go out in the cold weather to MD. My first thought was you were all CRAZY. ;D

Well yesterday evening I decided I was going to go out myself. So I got the MXT out, cleaned all the dust off it and read thru the manual.

This morning at 9:00 I went to the play area in my apartment complex. It's a mulch bed with a slide, swing set, monkey bar thingie and a bench to sit on.

It felt like I was their about 45 minutes to an hour. But it was 2 hours.

I had the disc. set low since thats what you all say to do. Right?

My finds were as follows.

A handful of pull tabs and other assorted junk.

57 Lincoln Pennies

3 Jefferson Nickles

3 Dimes clad

4 Quarters clad

1 Car wash token

1 Large, One Cent coin from Canada dated 1916.

1 Sterling silver ring with a turquoise setting.

I will try to attach pics.

Welcome back! ;D
I also use the MXT. I like it a lot. But about the trigger setting. In coin and jewelry mode, trigger forward "notches" out SOME types of pull tabs. But in that same pull tab range can be some gold rings. I wouldn't want to notch out any rings. In relic mode, which is where I hunt most of the time, trigger forward mutes any targets that are below your Disc setting rather than giving you the low tone you get with trigger centered. Now if you hunt in relic mode with trigger forward and Disc set at 0 you get a low tone for all ferrous targets and a high tone for all nonferrous targets. A great setting for separating good targets from iron targets that are laying very close to each other. A good setting to use at old home sites where there can be lots of iron in the ground.
Also you will get a slightly smoother operation if after ground balancing over clean ground you switch the toggle to lock. This blocks any extra noise you might get from the auto trac working to keep the ground balance the same. In most areas, except where you may be prospecting, the ground matrix will be pretty much the same. So setting the ground balance to lock does no harm. AND it is actually still working in the background. If your threshold becomes erratic or you start getting some falsing all you need to do is switch the toggle to ground then back to lock and the MXT will update itself. Just be sure to switch the toggle back and forth over a clean spot of ground and keep your coil close to the ground.
Have fun and congrats on the silver ring.

Sweet finds ;D Drop me an email when the weather breaks.
