Well folks, I am in LA on business for 2 weeks, and I had a weekend to kill, so I decided to head north to Jamestown, CA. I booked a panning and sluicing package for Saturday...before the artic front came through. SO, Saturday morning, I wake up, head across the street to the prospecting shop, and the guy tells me the creek is frozen solid, it's the first time he had ever seen it that way. So I waited until about 1 pm and convinced the guy to let me head down to see what I could find. He didn't charge me because he thought I was crazy lol. The water was probably 40 degrees and just painful. I only lasted about an hour and a half before my hands couldnt take it anymore. It was a very disappointing day to say the least.
Sunday, I was supposed to leave town around noon to get back to LA at a decent hour, but I decided I wasn't going leave Jamestown empty handed, especially since it will be a long time, if ever, that I will get to come back. Walked over and spoke with the guy and he said lets go. The creek had thawed, but was still bitterly cold. This time I used a sluicebox, which saved a bit of the cleaning of material (hands in cold water). I sluiced about 3 buckets of dirt, then panned the material left in the box. To my surprise, there was "color" as he put it. Of course, I can't retire, but I wouldn't trade the weekend for anything.
The first pic is Pyramid Lake, I had to stop and take a picture, it was amazing. The second of course, is the The Take. Not much, but worth the pain. Thanks for looking!!
