Just got permission to hunt a new place that is virgin grounds and been empty for 15 years. Built around the early 1900's the lady told me. The farm is about 1 acre so I will be busy here for a while. Found some interesting relics and my first silver for 09. 2 silver quarters, 2 mercs a 1944 and a 1941, 3 Wheaties 1946, 1944 and a 1935. Found the pistol laying on top of a flower garden. Hub (Hubley) from the 1940's The license plate was also lying on top on the side of the house. The cylinder shaped object is a A. Shrader's and son's universal tire gauge with patenets of 1906 and 1908. Won't work on modern applications. Found a lid to a manicure case with coty on it. Coty was founded in 1905 and has changed names over the years. I read a brief history on it and it was popular up until the 60's. Found a cool token like thingy from the National supply co. No idea what it may have been used for. The little round object with a slit in it is brass. No idea what it is. Found a body by fisher (GM). I know these were put on older cars but no idea on it's age. One interesting aspect of the house is a huge slab of stone with a school engraved in it. I thought I took pictures of both sides but forgot to. Must have been moved there from another location. Hopefully I will pull some more silver from this place. Thanks for looking, Ron

Is that 44 merc a double date?

I'll have to look at it again. Everyone has been saying that. I have just been so darn busy in between hunts. I have to leave again soon back out on the road to California to pick my wife up from LA on the 31st

hey nice finds, I'm sure that there are alot more! I love to MD places like that. Keep us posted.

Well, it looks like a few others think that 44 might be a double die as well. Nice finds, hopefully there is more to come at this spot.

I looked at it closely and really hard to tell, even with a magnifying glass ???

Actually it fell off. I bought a set of 4 from Wally world and it didn't last a week. Plastic junk >:( Love my Colt car though. Great gas mileage and paid off. Got it for 600 bucks from my detecting buddy's son. 5 speed and a mitsubishi 1600 motor. Nice detecting partner

Could you post a very close up pic of the 44 merc ..maybe one of us can tell if it is double die or not....

I'll give it a try. I don't know if my camera will do well close up even on the macro setting ???

Ha! Ha! This brings back memories... Almost 30 years ago, someone stole my factory caps during a trip to Chicago. I bought a cheap set with the steel clips to replace them. First highway trip, we watched them zing right off, one by one. Somebody told me to clean the wheel then put black spraypaint on the wheel where the clips go to give the clips something to bite into. I thought it was BS, but tried it anyway. :-\ The re-replacements never flew off again. ;D

Hi Ron,
I started tracking my hours detecting this year just to satisfy my curiosity. So far in '09, 44.5 actual swinging hours and no silver coins. It's just my way of protesting this slump until I get one. ;D

Night before last it was 59 and rainy. Then overnight it dropped to 15. Today it was 12 degrees when I got up. Tomorrow it's in the 40's and clear, so I'll be out the next few days working on changing my name back for sure!

Yeah, back to 46 here Fri. I'll get out again. Have some new places linned up. I like to keep a few open so when the current place runs dry I have somewhere to go. ;D
