'posum's are living fossils
like the gar fish and another animal that escapes me now

The other living "fossil" that is escaping you I believe is the (this is not the correct spelling but I am spelling it the way it sounds) SE-LA-CANTH, a prehistoric fish thought dead for millions of years until found off the coast of Africa in the mid 1900s. COELACANTH is the correct spelling.

Opossums need love too!! ;)

Check out the National Opossum Society at http://www.opossum.org/

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Ha...Ha..that was a good one! I dont care what those critters would taste like...I swear i will never eat one! While in the military I ate a lot of stuff that walked and craweled, but nothing was as ugly as those darn things...plus the noise they make creep me out too!

Looks like the opossum was nice and cozy in the cat bed :D ;D. I would be upset too if you woke me up. Great shots. It must be a good feeling to live that close to nature. I have never experienced that living in the city.

yup thats it

side note WILD animals that associate people with food need to be shot

I agree most of them are ugly little critters, but yours happens to be cute kinda!

My youngest daughter is a care giver for abandoned wildlife. She once raised 11 Opossums in our home! It was a hoot. She released each as it was able to survive. The last one to go was a big female. She was a real sweety. They are nocturnals and as day sleepers, if she got in the way, you could pick her up by the tail and she would'nt even wake up. Ocassionally she would "smile" at you with all 56 teeth! Daughter use to bath this possomette once a week and if kept clean their fur is really something. Finally she was returned to the wild healthy and raring to go and fine Mr. Possum Right.

Like I posted on another thread, I hade a pet possum named Ethel. She was smart & learned much faster than dogs (I used to train animals for a living). They also will use a sandbox, just like a cat. They hate anything messy. They are really interesting animals. Ethel was used for a "zoo camp" so that children would learn about animals & see them up close. 5 days a week I would pack a lunch for her, pack up her favorite sweatshirt (she like to nest in the sleeve), & send her off to camp.

Hey nice find! I had a critter in my garbage bin yesterday morning at 4:30am when I put the garbage out. I think it was a skunk so I stayed clear of the area for a while ;D

Nice post and great pictures! I remember the possums well growing up in Ohio, we have none in Germany. HH, Mike
