Haven't found your coin, but if it is the real deal it has all the ear markings of a real roman coin. That is a S C on the coin. On Roman coins it was what we would call today, a mint mark. It stood for Senatus Consulto, which means "By decree of the senate." And is seen on Roman coins back to the time of Christ. Talk about a tale of "If only a coin could talk." Wow, what an amazing find.

I think we have to consider the possibility of a modern replica, unless its a modern drop from someones coin collection. What area was it found? How deep? what was the era of other finds?

We need to find an authentic match and compare. Some of the Brits will probably know what it is.

i agree with big cypress ! could have been dropped by an immigrant or a preist ,catholicism was introduced into mexico before texas became anywhere near a state,,,,romans / catholic ??? just a thought... :dontknow: and that goes back as far as year 1519 !!

It really is a stretch of a Roman coin to show up in Texas. Like I said. "If only the coin could talk. I think I'd still take it over a Merc dime.

It was found in Central Texas on a vacant lot where several 1940-1960's houses stood... from what I understand they were all pushed down contents and all... we have found silver spoons silver plated utensils broken plates bottles silver coins wheat pennies buttons a 1900 Indian Head penny... trade tokens marbles dog tags... all the normal stuff you'd expect in a "yard" this was located on the backside of the "push area" where most of the good stuff has been found.

It was about 3 or 4 inches deep it is the size of a quarter an a little thicker than a quarter it has a 1 inch diameter and when dropped it has a coin sound like when dropping a quarter.I assume it was a part of someones collection... who ever lived there must of been a traveler... I also found that Ford 30 years of progress token... which came from the 1933 Chicago's worlds fair. I have also found WWI buttons in this location.
