I found this item quite a few years ago in Machias, Maine. It weighs 8 oz. I believe it is a handle of an early flint lock pistol. But, I am not sure.

Hi Wosterb
I'm sure it would make a decent grip for a pistol or a neat homemade knife or something...but it's off of a horse collar...but keep looking, lots of members have found guns etc!
Well thank you for that. I have been wondering about this item for years. About how old is this piece? Do you happen to know?

I have been looking at your picture, I'm sorry, but, I don't this item on the picture of the horse collar.

Are you from up that way? My ancestors on one side of my family were from Machias/St. Stephens.

Welcome to TNet, btw.

I am not originally from that area. But, I married a girl from there. I was stationed at Navradsta Cutler Me and then again several other times at Navcoom Cutler Me. Same place they were just given an updated name. I lived there for about 20 years off and on while I was in the navy.

Not sure how many Kings are still there, but if there are, I'm some sort of wayward 8th cousin.

I think Ironhorse is pretty close
