How thick is it and are there 3 of them connect together? Hard to tell from the picture. If it is just one with the slot/hole in it, a guess would be part of a pocket watch that was re-purposed into a coat/cloak button.

sort of looks like a clock part
each disc would be painted to show the morning, noon and eve
Just a wild thought

Its clearly a Pre-1800's East Coast Fidget Spinner prototype. The Ball Bearing Race design wasn't patented until 1794. Pryor to that the "Fidget Amusement Device" was much more boring and hadn't caught on yet.
Nice find!!! :occasion14:

Thanks for the info everyone :icon_thumright:

What info? :laughing7: They are just wild guesses (except maybe the Fidget Amusement Device theory) . The truth is we dont know what it is but thanks for being gracious.

Are there any markings, letters, numbers on it anywhere?

This is an interesting what is it and I hope it gets solved.

This is possibly the best guess of all the poor guesses. Although it does at first resemble something on a clock (its round, the adjustment slot) these plates were not made to turn everyday IMO and there are no gears to make them turn. And why a button shank? So I will add my poor guess that maybe they were turned by hand for some kind of calculation or color comparison or from something on a camera? Weird find. I dunno.

Where did you find it?

Thats a stumper the only thing it could serve as a clock part is a pendulum And thats a stretch!

I'm with everyone who says clock part, it's just the tab on the back the "button loop" type attachment. What the heck would that be used for, if it was for a clock or something you would think that it would be part of the mech that attaches all three together, penny for everyone's thoughts

I'm thinking more like feeler guages?are the disks different thicknesses? or fancy button that unfolded after buttoning? doesn't look at all like clock parts.

All the clock frames I've seen had many holes in them for the gear axles. I'm assuming that the post going through that small disc (next to the slot) goes through the center disc and anchors into, but not through, the third disc?
