I think that is a link out of an old cistern style chain pump.

The links on my chain are a different type, but the principle is the same.

Size?

Yep, bet the sistren pump is right. That would have just fit into a 1 1/2" pipe, or maybe a 2" with the washer around it.

just my 2c

Just really looked at this one.

I think it is a terret for something. They come in thousands of sizes and conformations.

A terret is just a ring used on harness - all kinds of harnesses - horse, mountain climbers, dog harness, etc. Anything on any kind of harness that is used for reins, leashes, etc., is called a terret.

Hi Trader. I just dug this up a few minutes ago and I remembered your post. Sorry the scan isn't better. Creskol is right about cistern pump. This doodad I just dug had the leather washer on it but it quickly fell apart when I washed it. It doesn't go around the outer ring, but instead lays flat against the ring, at least this one here had a flat leather against one flat side of the ring. Maybe we can dig a few more of these and get the old pump up working again. :).

Hey Trader, I got one too. I remembered seeing this post while digging in some of the junk on the back of my truck. Don't even remember where I dug it. :tongue3:
