Searching a backyard from the 1920's was doing pretty well finding a little bit of everything..was a bout to leave and told myself to go back & check a iffy very quiet signal. About 10 innches down the army and the star showed thenselves had to go about another 2inches to pull out the 3rd. I was amazed I found these at all they are all so small. Pin with star is marked sterling, army and other came out just as you see , both are enamled but cant be sure if there gold, can find no markings your help on these would be greatly appreciated thank you so much.

The rectangle with the star is the service flag. Its for mothers who have sons or daughters fighting over seas. If you see one that has a gold star that means their son or daughter was killed in action. One star is one individual. I believe they go all the way up to four stars. I hope that helps. I am not sure about the years though. Since they are enameled I would guess world war 2 time frame but that is only a guess.

The pin with the cross looks like the pins we use to get for good attendance at our sunday school class.

Or for a church deacon...

Definitely WWII era. Lapel pins were very popular. I have a small collection of WWII battalion pins from my wife's grandmother.

nhbenz is right about the Sweetheart Pin category. I'm not familiar with the cross pin, but I have seen the other two, they were commonly worn together to show a son in the service, and that he was in the Army. I've also seen one with "U.S. Navy" on it, and a larger one that said "Army Air Corps" Nice finds!

The rectangular pin is definitely a "I have a son serving in the military" pin.

I have often heard them referred as 'blue star' pins.

As you already know, blue star banners/flags were also made of cloth, and it was fashionable to hang those in a front window of a home where one or more sons were serving in the military during WWII.
