Hello The Dig Dig, It appears to be a US Army World War One era first sergeant insignia pin. The diamond in the stripes is the identifying factor. Cool find, congrats, Sub 8-)

Looks like a pin broke off the back, so my guess is it was worn on the uniform collar.

I'm psyched to learn its most likely ww1 and it fits the time frame. The area had 3 homes on it from 1880-1970 but the best part is how often it gets hunted. I drive by it daily and see at least one guy a week doing it. I've spoke to a neighbor who told me its done at least 6 times a month and has been since the they were torn down in the 60's. and I dug it with my 20 year old Whites spectrum XLT :-)
