I am going to the Estate sale of Dennis Day tomorrow

I still haven't figured out the difference between an Estate sale & a yard sale
unless it's how far in the air, the sellers nose points,
when you ask for vintage bottles of grey poupon.

or offer them a Quarter for the Bubble gum Ring on their Finger

In a nutshell, an estate sale is the entire contents of a home after someone has passed on. There is a big difference. You never know what you may find.

Their prices are way too high. It took me a long time to finally accept that estate sale companies are there to make money. I would get very bent out of shape that I could not find anything to resell. I find it rare that they miss a piece either. If they are in doubt, they price it high!!!! I skip 99% of them now.

I used to agree with you 100%, but the last few months, I've found a few pieces of gold mixed in with the straw. You never know.

It doesn't even have to be the entire contents, but the remains of an estate after someone dies. We have some here we call Moved estate sales. Some rich families pack up the things they want, maybe 2 or 3 boxes a person of pictures and so on... You know, personal stuff. They move to a new house, new furnishings, new kitchen stuff... new everything. They put an estate sale company in the old house, sell all the left over stuff, and be done with it.

True. Down here (retirement capital) many of the elderly are transplants from other areas of the country who moved here 20 or more years ago to retire. So, many times the family is from out of state. Of course family members will always go through the estate and sort out items they want to keep for themselves, if they all get along that is. Many times though, the contents are ordered sold by the courts through the personal representative of the estate. All it takes is one greedy family member and that isn't usually too hard to find. I know from personal experience. Families torn apart fighting over money that wasn't theirs to begin with, disgusting.

My will states that all of my belongings are to be sold at auction. If my kids want anything, they can buy it at the sale. It then comes out of their share of the returns. That way, they can decide what they want, and how much they are going to pay for it.
