This might seem simplistic, but found it made a world of difference to me, when hunting in some of the older Virginia parks.
There they had very old trees.....hundreds of years old....with root systems on top of the ground. I would have to raise/lower my coil when hunting them. Then, started running the coil parallel to the roots. I wouldn't have to move the coil up or down....just next to the roots. Found several deep coins that I was not hearing when moving the coil up and down, over the roots. Try it....it worked for me.

Another trick that works good is to switch over to a larger coil to compensate for the height of the roots. Or if you have a 4" or 5" coil use that for the inbetweens. The large coil technique works real good.

Does anyone have tips for digging by trees. There's a big tree in my yard and I get some good hits by it but I have a lot of trouble recovering whats there.
