I would love to hunt the beach but we have a different type of beach here, its all dry beach. With a very high ground mineralization I have to choke the machine down to nothing on a sensitive mode to get the chains. I do get the chains more so than rings. It has to be a windless day and very quiet to hit the actual chain as I believe I am picking up the clasp. If your hitting on tiny foil pieces you probably will hit the clasp on chains. Now this is how my fisher hunts and may be different than a minelab. I found a chain yesterday and lost the pendant as I removed it too quickly from the ground. I searched for 20 minutes but could not find the tiny cross that was attached. Chains get me all excited and such. Good post and lots of nice info from all.

I agree. I don't own an excal or CTX, but I know when hunting the water or sand the ONLY time I ever find chains is when I hit a zone with a dig anything attitude. When I say anything I mean every signal. When I do this I can usually find a chain or two......not always gold mind you. Often I'll run a negative ground balance as well, just for the added sensitivity outside the normal matrix. I also find a lot of thin earrings with this hunting method. I should point out a lot of these items come in as jumpy but mostly iron sounds on my machine. Now I don't do this all the time, but I usually will do it once I've hunted a section to death for the rings. :)
