How's Everyone Coping with the Heat??

This summer has been especially brutal, at least in the Northeast, with lots of humidity and higher than average temps. I know a lot of you are down south or out west, so I'm not going to complain!

I've also been noticing some really great finds, so I know that the heat doesn't stop you die hard md'ers. I really wonder how you all do it!

Here in Vermont, most of the homes are not air conditioned. This is probably because in typical practical Yankee fashion, it's not practical to incur that kind of expense for something that you are only going to need a few weeks out of every year.

Over the winter, we moved to a lovely post and beam home where all of the windows are of the crank out variety. Despite the fact that we have 3 window AC units, there is just no way of fitting them in the windows. I understand that they make units that do not get installed in the window, but being a hard-headed Yankee myself, I keep thinking that this hot spell is going to end any day, and then I'll regret the purchase.

On top of the heat, I've been suffering with a hum dinger of a summer cold, complete with sore throat, cough and congestion. I feel absolutely awful!! So, to get through, we've all been spending a lot of time at the lake, where the water is like a bathtub, or if we are up to a hike, at the local falls, where the water is COLD.

I've not touched the metal detector in something like three weeks, and I'm going through withdrawal. I've been spending time researching places to go, but that's only adding to my frustration. I find myself hoping for a good storm to cool things off..and, I hate to admit it, but fall sounds good about now.

Wishing everyone a great weekend and a break in the weather!

I put the piña colata down for a moment and reach for the knob that says "High Cool" and give 'er a turn! TTC

artemis,, i believe i would be taking some panels out of 1 of them crank out windows and putting the air conditioner in its place , that will also help with humidity . if the panel is to hard to take out then take out a pane of glass and mount the unit to the outside on a shelf , just make sure to brace it well.
the cost of taking the pane out and putting it back in later would be worth it ..lol
stay cool and get feeling better :)

We're actually getting a break this month here. Last month we had 17 days over 90, with so far for July only 6.
86-89's a treat... I guess.
I just can not enjoy outings here May thru Sept. That's a chunk of the year I'd like to live in San Diego folks!
50's-70's is very appealing to me.

Well, we have central air and I am not leaving it. I want to go detecting so bad, but I cannot stand this heat. Even first thing in the morning with the headphones acting like ear muffs lol. I am wishing for fall too. Too much for this old lady!!!!!!!!!! Could not see what is in the hole with the sweat in my eyes!

I was out all day Tuesday, Wensday and Thursday metal detecting.. My wife packed me a cooler full of water and gatorade and told me to have fun.. It was hot but I scored 3 silver coins so the heat was bearable LOL..

beach, pool, a/c, beer, maybe go hang out in the frozen foods cases at the market. stay cool all

Weather has been way below normal here lately. Sadly, I'm too busy to hunt!

Today was the first I've been out in the heat wave so far
(day 6 I think in the heat wave for here)
I had to run to Wally-Mart to get shoes & look for a Rolling stone.
unfortunately I only found shoes.
Anyway I walked inside & was almost in shock, it felt like 50 degrees in there,
I really hated to leave, walking out was equally uncomfortable.

Next stop was the Local Farmers Market for my Apples

& then the Subway for a footlong.

Sitting here at home again with the fan on me.

High never made it into the Tripple Digits today, so that was a break.

95 here with 90% plus humidity!!! Its like walking around in a bowl of SOUP!!! :(

Artemis.

Look at Home Depot, or Lowes, they make a portable AC unit that you can move from room to room. It's on castors, and is vented outside through a window slide, very similar to a window fan. I think you could find a way to install, even with the push out windows. Just got one for my parents and installed 2 units in customers homes. Price runs in the 250-300 range, better in sales, but doubt you'll find them in this demand. Good luck, already 92 here on the lake!

Like 52 said they have air condt that set on the floor and vent out the window as I have one as a backup for my central air if it goesout. from sears. I live in sw mo. its 94 here but life goes on just a normal year as last year was 102 for a week here. It's the hottest time of the year so hang on till fall.

It's been a hot week here in North Central Indiana. I was calling the local wind farm and asking them to turn those big fans my way and switch them on high. They quit accepting my calls.............GRiley

I've been at the Y pool near my house today, felt pretty decent in the water but then again,I'm a Southern girl and used to the heat. I hope you feel better soon Artemis.
