How to stick it to the poor: A congressional strategy

From the living Bible

John 3:17 But if someone is supposed to be a Christian, and has money enough to live well, and sees a brother in need, and won't help him - how can God's love be within him.

Most of the congressman with their fingers on the Nay button are Christians. How can that be?
You'll note it says nothing about compelling others to do what you should do. What congressmen do, personally, should have no effect on what they REQUIRE of others. The poor have a reasonable expectation of some help....doesn't mean they have they right to enslave the helpers.

Not long ago another TN member posted a photo of The Gipper with the caption "Miss me yet?"

I posted some hi-lites from his time as President and it was deleted for being off topic.

I liked the Gipper too, but was scared at the time he'd tick off the Russians and we'd have World War III. Boy, what an actor!

Interestingly, he was very interested in getting rid of nuclear weapons. President John F. Kennedy, of course, pushed hard for the Test Ban Treaty.

But, for some reason, many of those who supported President Reagan objected when President Obama continued his anti-nukes work.

So those people receiving SNAP (no such program as "food stamps") are more hungry now then they were before?

SNAP is another Federal government subsidy for big agriculture, grocery stores, etc. It does stimulate the economy because a ready supply of money isn't enough. It has to have velocity. And, let's face it, poor folks spend all they take in.

Good luck to all,

Cool,, A conservative bashing thread!

The problem with your statement is what? If the people spent money they "earned" there would be velocity, Because their efforts would be the result of need.
But the spending of money confiscated from someone else and given away ( with the appropriate cut to bureaucracy), is overall an economic drag, a slowly unwinding "perpetual clock". It seems like it is going under it's own power for awhile,, but it keeps losing seconds every hour, till the windings shut down.

Fact - Christians and Christian organizations have given, and will continue to give more then any pathetic liberal or liberal organization on this planet.

Fact - Lib's - Want the government to steal money and give it to whoever they chose. Lib's are pathetic, of course not meaning any of you here on TN.

Makes the blood boil when the lib's are proven wrong, again, and again. Sad lot of ya, attacking the good people. Bully's, pathetic Bully's...........

THX for missing the point. But in case anyone else thinks i was attacking Christians - NOT!!!!!!!

I agree that Christians do much good work. Why do they do it? They take the word of God seriously. They believe in helping their fellow man. That to give is the work of God. Yet, congressman who profess these beliefs are the very same ones who say the needy don't deserve our help.

That's an inexplicable dichotomy.

No sorry NF - You don't get the point. God or Jesus never told the government to steal money and spread it around. He said for "us" to give to the poor. If all you lib's would help out us Christians and give like we do, maybe we could all make a big dent in the issue. Then we would all be happy - correct?

I think your problem with it is reading and applying small parts of it without understanding the whole concept. There is much more to Christianity than throwing away money to people that don't appreciate it. There is actually spiritual messages included for the growth of one's soul. And helping others to a better fulfillment.

Good point, Dave. What socialism misses is that when people voluntarily give, it builds society. The giver gets a blessing, and feels good about himself. The receiver feels that people care about him. Because of that, he feels an obligation to limit his needs. That tends to bind a society. Now, look what happens when giving is forced. The forced person may have to deny his own needs. He feels lousy, and angry at his society for forcing him to donate to a cause he may not agree with, with funds he may not afford. The receiver feels nothing...the money comes from a faceless entity, to whom he owes nothing. In fact, the giver (government) tells him he is "entitled" to the gift. So he takes all he can get....not just enough to cover his basic needs. Society is torn apart. The evidence is all around us. The deeper into socialism we go, the more separated we become.

Why choose between under-educating children and taking the food out of their tiny mouths?

The 113th Congress has stuck it to the poor at pretty much every opportunity. In fact, if you take all their past and future plans into account, it looks like they have accomplished that rare feat: To close in on enacting an overarching, radical agenda without control of the Senate or the presidency. How did they do it? Probably by escaping scrutiny through a piecemeal approach to legislation, a president who is willing to meet them halfway, and one diabolic word: Sequester.
