I suspect your nickle is your dating of all 3 items(generally)in the 40s the u.s.govt decreed that gold of 10k or higher be marked with the K.the style seems right too.the musket ball may be slingshot ammo.firing that crude thing out of a barrel seems unlikely.are the balls steel or lead?
