How do you keep yourself safe outdoors?

You are joking about this right? if not, why in the world would you want to let the very people you are trying to protect yourself from know that you are armed? and on your back no less?

no harley, that is not what i ment.
i have had weapons training, i just think that many of the people claiming the NEED to carry weapons are the problem.

thanks for serving.

Thanks Pippin,

I do think most people take too much precautions every now and then, but with today's society with crime rising and the legal system not punishing them enough has gotten people aware of the dangers. depending on thier locations when someone calls 911, they either wait minutes to quite a while before police get there so response time is important depending on where you are. It only takes seconds to be severly hurt or killed before the police arrive. In ALL asspects, even going to the grocery store one has to be ALERT about his/her surroundings. But going out into remote areas by yourself I would not recommend doing. Some have braved out all alone. Even with my many 19 years of service in SF ever since I went to Boot Camp. I am brave enough to venture alone, would I truely go out into the Seirra Mountains or other remote mountains or remote areas to treasure hunt alone. NO, it ISN'T WISE, NOR SMART especially if you are going by the Mex/American border.

If you are going out into remote mountainous terrain and you are going alone, one should have handgun training and go to a gun range at least once a month and practice with the weapon that they are going to carry, but if one doesn't like guns, tazers work well just as good, but if you have several assailants, a tazer will not doing anything at all. I have a team-mate who is a Deputy Sheriff. He told me of an event that 2 deputies had to taze this guy, (yes, 2 tazers) and zap him at least 4-5 times before they were able to get him down to the ground.

As I had said before, if you are going out to the wilderness, or any area, (remember CRIME IS EVERYWHERE), be aware of your surroundings and take someone with you. Yes we ALL want to find treasure alone and tell no one else about it in fear of losing the treasure, but I would rather split the treasure with someone coming along, then to be found dead trying to find it! One doesn't need to carry multiple guns, etec, but it is good idea to have at least 1, whether hangun or rifle and remember that if you DO HAVE TO USE it, understand that it is a life and death situation and shoot to kill, as someone stated earlier, you must make sure you mention you feared for your life and "shoot to kill, NOT wound", The legal systems says, "CRIMINALS HAVE RIGHTS" so be aware of that! Even though many of US disagree, but it IS FACT!

Glock 30, plus knife on hip, if you look the part and like you belong there for an official reason people just walk on by, the best protection is being alert to you surroundings, if someone gets the jump on you then you need to fight, otherwise an armed society is a polite society

I'D RATHER HAVE 12 OF MY PEERS TRY ME.........THAN 6 CARRY ME TO THE GRAVE! A NORTH AMERICAN ARMS MINI REVOLVER with 2 rounds of rat shot and 3 CCI STINGERS will take care of most problems.
