That Washington sure has seen a lot of pockets now:laughing7:.Nice merc. too!! Good hunting tomorrow dude. GodBless Chris

nice shape on ur coins!!

Pathfinder...the dime was around 9 inches the quarter around 6 and under a root. Thanks guys...the merc sure did clean up nice. I smoked the quarter on the tail side with my lesche. Nice scratch running top to bottom. *Shaking my head!!*

nice finds congrats HH

Thanks pathfinder. I don't know why everyone else is complaining but here in north eastern NC the Garrett AT Pro is kicking major butt. I guess it likes the soil conditions but i hear people talk about how they hate it. How it doesn't get good depth...i don't know but I've got one and my Mom and Stepdad have one. Both of our machines are amazing and have been on time here lately with the finds. Last week was a 1942 Merc that I didn't bother to post up but it too was around 8 to 9 inches. Mom got a ring last week...they've been good to us.

MD, nice silver you found there. The merc is beautiful and I'd take a well worn Washington any time. I'm new to detecting and have an ace 250. I don't think it would find a dime as deep as yours was. I can't wait to get a better detector. HH

Yeah I hear you, I have a older Garrett Ultra 350 that has been really true to what it says and the depth has been spot on, and I will tell you Garrett's customer services Great if you ever have issues with your Pro...Rock on and good hunting :))

Mercury1: I hope you do get a chance to upgrade. I've found out metal detector brands are just like women. Some people like blondes...some brunettes...some redheads. It's all in what you prefer as far as brands. I'm not gonna knock another brand and trash talk...ever. what i will do is stand behind what i know and believe and like pathfinder said Garrett's customer service rocks. I've had my AT Pro for 2 years and I hunt HARD...as in all the time. Well the foam grip and the soft piece on the arm cuff was coming apart. I called Garrett and told them what was up. Less than a week later I had a package from Garrett. A new foam piece and a new arm support piece...free...no charge...no questions asked...only a thank you from the person i spoke with at Garrett for choosing to buy Garrett products. I've seen other threads where people say their service sucks...like I said. It's all in what you prefer...me I'm a blonde kinda guy! *evil grin*

Nice coins..I have yet to find any silver quarters or larger coins,,
I have only found 3 silver dimes and all were at my old high school.

However I have only been detecting a few months and have been working two schools which have
produced a LOT of clad and other neat things like wheaties and rings.

1st school is my old high school built in 1951..there I have found:

$40+ clad
925 women's heart ring
59 Rosie XF but some pitting
Mint 64 Rosie (looks brand new with no wear or scratches at all)
1941 s Merc that would grade clsoe to XF
9 wheat pennies..oldest being 1938

School number two built in 1958:

$90+ clad ( all but 5 nickels were quarters and dimes )
Old and pitted 925 engagement ring with a big stone..inside the band is marked "057" followed by 925
925 women's black onyx ring
925 Disney skull pendant necklace with 925 women's chain
One 1947 D wheat penny but not one silver coin yet

High tone finds are getting scarce now, so its time to go back and dig the gold and nickel signals..AKA pull tab and foil

I Gave my Ultra 350 to my Dad and and he forgot to take the batteries out and it ruined the battery cage, I called Garrett and asked if the battery cage was available for my 18 year Garrett for me to purchase and they said it was, I asked how much would it be to order the battery cage, the representative from Garrett asked for my address and sent me 4 battery cages at no cost, I had them in 3 days and now my Dad has a Garrett that works and 3 extra battery cages...Garrett is the Pinacle of metal Detecting!!!

I've only had the 250 for a couple weeks now and I bought it thinking I didn't want to spend too much till I'm sure ill use it a lot. So far I've really enjoyed it. I think I need to keep using the 250 till I feel like I've completely mastered it, then move up. The minelab Etrac and ctx 3030 have me drooling but the Garrett AT Pro might be a more affordable option that would meet my needs. Good point you make about the manufacturer customer service.

Guitarguy: sounds like you've got a honey hole you've stumbled upon. All of my civil war and revolutionary sites are all planted out right...I'm not trying to make my landowner mad and dig up all of his crops so I've switched modes and gone to lake beaches and park hunting now. The coins have come from the park. It's in a nice old part of town.

Pathfinder just proved my point on the customer service thing. Plus you talk to a real person not a machine.

Mercury1: i don't know if you've tried but go to youtube and search the Garrett AT Pro. Some very nice videos of the Pro in action. If i would have started out with a 250 i might would still have be using it. It's pretty descent as an entry level machine. Here's my deal...always wanted a detector...a few years back i got a Bounty Hunter for Christmas...in 3 days i realized i was gonna love the hobby...i gave the Bounty Hunter to my mom cause she's always wanted to try metal detecting...i go and research research research and decided on the AT Pro. Me and mom go hit an old plantation home built in 1742 here in my county. I'm pulling flat button after flat button and a few pieces of clad and some 1940 costume jewelry. Mama has foil and cans. I wanted to see exactly how far she was able to get into the ground with the BH...i hear a nice clean mid tone and call her over. I've dug so many buttons i figured that this was another. My AT Pro is telling me 6 inches...she swings the BH and not even a hint of a blip...blurp...or chirp. I dig...flat button at 5 or 6 inches with the shank attached...she finished out the winter season with a few pieces of clad...now she's upgraded to the Pro and is keeping up with me on the good finds. I did a test and planted some clad anywhere from 2 to 8 inches to see what the BH was getting depth wise. I got a quarter at 6 inches and that was it. Dimes at 6 no way...dimes and pennies at 4. Just saying...if you're not happy with what you have after a while move on up. I seriously doubt I'll ever get tired of this hobby...I love going places i think no one has thought about looking or places that others have been denied access to. I love using my gift of gab to get permission from old ornery farmers or landowners. I've even had some business cards made up to look a little more professional when I'm working on a tough landowner. I always tell my landowners they can see what ever it is I dig up...and that they can keep as little or all of what i find. I like the fact the history is out of the ground for us to see. It's doing them or me any good by waisting away in the dirt...9 times out of 10 it's worked for me.
