Holy Cow....I am still shakin'....what did I find?

I just got home and ran these two coins under some water to get most of the dirt off. One of these is what I believe they call a "copper" from the best I can tell it may possibly say 1775 on it....but cant make 100% sure

The other one appears to have some type of crest on it, and then figures and objects ....is this an old hammered silver coin?

Anybody?

Can I clean the copper so I can see it better or would that devalue it? I put a nasty scratch on the copper when it was recovered...

Thanks for your help.

Edge of a farmers field 7 1/2 inches down. It was approximately 6 feet away from the copper which was 9 inches deep. I will get some pictures of the edges up tonight. Thanks

Then it sure sounds like it is an early coin. If no modern finds were there you'd have to be the most unlucky person on the forum to have found junk on an old site. It can happen, but pretty uncommon.

Re: Holy Cow....I am still shakin'....what did I find?

Im not sure I can find the exact match but the possibility exists that its just a poor quality modern replica. But I would rather find a spanish reale replica than a zincoln any day. If it turns out to be modern, you dont want to hang it around your neck.

Here is a link with modern zinc replicas. http://www.deadmentellnotales.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&keywords=XTCR
The first pic is an 8 reale but the second pic is a 2 reale. The 2R pic is small and not very clear on detail so its hard to tell. The only way to be sure is to purchase one and hold the 2 side by side. I think it resembles the second pic.

Im hoping that its a period counterfeit. But if its zinc based pot metal, it would be modern.

Look closely at the last 2 pics I posted.
I think we have a match. :( spanish replica 2 real enlarge.webp
Notice the cross is off centered the same in relation to the shape which is also the same.

I dont have a better pic but I suggest to purchase one for .75. This is your coin IMO.

Modern pot metal replica, sorry.

I find them on Treasure beach lol. I think people toss them for us to find. And tourists buy them and lose them.

Youre welcome. I am amazed at the amount of replicas, copies, fakes and fantasy cobs on the market. I think I was lucky to find a match. This particular one is a mass produced zinc replica (most likely) but fakes coming out of Central America are silver, made individually and much harder to spot. They are being sold on eBay and to tourists. There are so many coming on the market that I have stopped trying to document them. It seems to be becoming a losing battle.
