Hoard of silver found Metal detecting

Awesome dig, thanks for sharing... Amazing pieces of sterling, over a grand easy !

I'd vote banner but, I think it needs to be posted by the original finder. :icon_scratch:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

crazy find!
I would like to see the follow up video and here the history on some of those trophies.

Nice!! Even at spot prices this find should be worth a good deal.

probably stuff from a theft long ago. what a really cool find

That whole video had me drooling! The owner was Reuben Andrus Holden III of Cincinnati, (1890-1967) who was a famous early Tennis player. There is an article about him on Wikipedia: Reuben A. Holden III - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and he had a son named Reuben as well as a grandson, Reuben A. Holden the 5th who is 60 years old now and currently living in Virginia, the owner of a baseball merchandise website.

Thats a great stash!

sounds like someone's house got burglarized and they hid the stuff.

Unfortunately, what struck me most about the video was the reckless abandon, tearing off a piece of the large bowl and using the shovel to "GOUGE" the contents leveraging against the side. While it may be true that the only value might be the silver itself, you could be destroying history! What if the tiny trophy cup had a handle broken in the process? decreasing the value 10x or more?

As a fellow detectorist, I value the history as much as the silver. We ask for permissions to dig, promising to fill our holes and showing respect for the privilege. We should do the same for the history! If you just set it aside to be more carefully cleaned at home with a good soak and careful removal of dirt and grime you would gain much more value.

Please, In the future, respect the history and take care with it as if it were something that you might have worked for a long time to be able to afford. I am sure that was the case for whomever lost these treasures so long ago!

Wow! That's a silver hoard and a half!

No biggie for me... just thought it was a way too cool find!

Very very cool find. But ya was cringing a bit when he was ripping and gouging that stuff out. I would have been excited to though lol.

OUTSTANDING!!! What a great find. I know people used to hide/bury their silver in the CW days, but I'm not sure why this may have been buried.
That trophy is way cool, and it was able to be traced back to the owner and family. Great job.
