Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and here is to you all having a Great New Year !!!

I bought an E-trac around the end of May or First of June.........I used it a total of 12 hours in the woods. My finds were 12 wheat pennies, 2 silver, one 14k white gold antique wedding band. I could only hunt maybe 2 hours at a time ........I have Lyme disease so I would get wiped out pretty quick but still happy with my finds.........

Only problem is I found nothing deeper than 5 inches......Nothing

Fast forward to November..........I had a PICC line inserted in my arm (Lyme treatment) to do IV antibiotics for the next 18 to 24 months and started feeling really bad and I am limited to what I can do with my arm let alone feeling like doing any metal detecting........so I was ready to sell my E-trac and talked to L4S about what it would be worth.

Long story short L4S didn't get back to me ..............dude I am so glad you didn't.....thank you!!

I have been out in the front yard the past couple nights digging 5 holes.......that's all I have the energy for. I am just glad to be doing that. Found 10 clad pennies, 1 clad dime, a junior pilot ring and part of something that says sterling on it. ........everything coming in at 5 inches or less. We have a bungalow from 1922 .......I am thinking at least one old coin but not yet.......of course at five holes at a time it could take a while :)

So I went to the back yard and dug a 6 inch hole and a 9 inch hole and put a piece of lexan in the holes (to keep the coins from turning) then put a silver Roosevelt dime in each hole.................I get nothing on both.

I know I need to get the Andy Sabisch book which I don't have but can someone help me out here with what I may be doing wrong ?

Thank you for reading my book of a post hope I can get some tips on if it is me or if I have a bad machine.

when you fire it up, do a noise cancel, then when you're ready to start detecting, go to the arrows on your push pad and press the up arrow 3 times, it will increase the depth of the machine. just remember, it has to be there, to find it. good luck

Hey there - I have tried to bury coins as well and it doesn't seem to see them as well as one that has been in the dirt for years... I've heard it is called the halo effect where the ground amps up the response or something.

Sniffer ............I do a noise cancel every time I start. I run Auto +3 sensitivity 19.

Gimmie The Loot ......... have you ever found anything deeper than 5 inches ? Out of everything I have ever found (including the nails, twist caps, pulltabs ) ....nothing has been deeper than 4 or 5 inches. I know I am missing a lot of stuff in the ground with some of the places I have hunted.

$ Casino Raider Bob $ ...............I would really like to go to the get together and meet you guys (most of you live real close to me). For now though I will be out of town that weekend.

I have now burried 2 Indian head pennies as well........6 inches and 9 inches ........can't hit either one.........but I am making quite a coin garden :)

Is there a possibility it could be something wrong with the machine that it won't hit a silver dime or a Indian head penny at 6 inches ? Any suggestions anyone could give me would be great.

I dig deep nails and iron each time I go out... most of my coins are 6" or less. Got a barber at 2 inches yesterday. I'm not too worried about the deep ones yet. Maybe why I have not got a seated yet :)

I must have been misunderstood. If you're not finding coins past 5 inches, they're not there. I f you don't find anything past 5 inches, something is wrong with your MD. I wasn't finding much of anything past 5 inches and came to find out the coil was bad. it has since been replaced and now I get tired of digging deep targets, but I do anyway because you just never know what's down there

Boy do I feel slow ............ I put my sensitivity to manual and now I can hit a 9 inch burried dime easy. Also did an air test which I always heard was of little use but easily hit every coin I tried to at least 10 inches playing with the settings.

I have a lot to learn and with me putting my detector up for months after just getting started with it .........it is like learning what little bit I did know all over again.

Stuck it back in auto +3 for now just to get used to the sounds again.........dug lots of clad out of my yard and the neighbors yard.

Anyway just wanted to say thanks to those of you who responded.

i hope there is a way you can still enjoy this hobby you have a great detector i have a freind who has one i have seen him get some dimes that i know i went over i use a xlt it is a good machine but not in the same class as that e trac stay with it and i pray that you get better good luck in the future dennis

Thanks Dennis I appreciate the kind words.

I was ready to give this hobby up getting all depressed with everything going on with me but I thank God it is slowly getting better.

I have my Andy Sabisch book now so hopefully I won't have as many questions and it will be a good read while the ground is frozen.

I went out last night in my yard and found either a bronze or brass American Airlines junior pilot ring ..........I thought that was pretty cool.
