Help with dagger

If the knife is 440A stainless steel, its junk,a letter opener steel.Cheap garbage= 440A .Then again I wouldnt want a knife,I use everyday and I had to depend on it 100%,made out of stainless steel.Stainless belongs in the kitchen.

here we go again...what would you recommend for a militia revolt against the USA? What type of blade is best for combat in current American society?

An outdated design for a knife isnt it.The only pro that it really has going for it would be if it had an armor piercing point. My Kabar combat knife (High carbon steel blade)has an armor piercing point, its much shorter, much lighter, less awkward to carry, doesnt get in the way,on my hip i dont even know its there.

Think it's a copy of a military or police (likely police) tanto. The handle is close to a police issue ceremonial tanto of WWII era.

But the "AKITO" in English takes it into the later time periods.

Is the handle real stingray skin? If it is a genuine Japanese naval dirk it will have stingray skin handle, the white pebbley part. Just my 2 cents.

My opinion it's a repro, there are several reasons why I say this... Look at the fittings and there are clearly visible imperfections in the metal in the third and fourth pics that would have been removed and polished out on an original. The Japanese military were a VERY blade oriented culture, and these daggers represented a tie to the Samurai and were made by quality makers. It just doesn't have the "crispness" in the details I would expect from a period piece. My area of collecting was German militaria, and this has the look of many of the repro Nazi daggers I've seen over the years. Even late war "last ditch" blades were relatively well made seeing as the production capabilities had been pretty much destroyed by then. Also the lack of any Japanese makers marks and the English lettering speaks a lot toward it being a repro. I would expect it, being an officers version, to have a makers mark on the blade.

If youre calling your reproduction 440 stainless steel katana that you were willing to risk your life defending your home with if somebody with a gun broke in,a Japanese weapons collection crisp,WoW.I'd lay off your own meds.:laughing9:
