Help, what is this?

Hi, newbie here. Found this yesterday, metal detector says silver. Looks like it has chop marks. But what is it??

Second…. Will likely need a little more info before you can get an answer. Where was this found (directionally) what type of location was it, was anything else found in proximity, and what do you mean by “detector says it silver”?

Central Texas, I did find some other things. I’ll post a picture. Metal detector reads a number of 89-90 and hits on “silver” I’m very new at this and started it as a hobby with my kids.

The detector probably has a dial gauge and it landed on silver.
Probably it's lead

Well you have one already that seems to work.
It really depends on a few things.
Budget, type of detecting you are doing.
Also consider if it's something that is done a few times a month vs you dream of digging every time you think.

It’s my sons so I’d like to get my own. No budget really. I actually wrote a children’s book about metal detecting. It’s not published yet but soon. So yes, It’s kind of a hobby that makes me happy and think of doing often lol 😆

There's lots of mid range detectors that are on the market place today.
There's a bunch of dealers that advertise on this forum, so they'll do you right.
Deus, Minelab, Notka are all top brand detectors.

Remember there's the used detector market as well, folks buy and sell new(er) machines all the time.
Weight of a machine is a big factor in detecting, comfort is key.
Swinging something heavier can result in fatigue or even a injury.

If a dealer suggests something, you can always think about it. Then ask the readership on what they think.
I'll say right now that the discussion and debates can be better than what brand of auto is best, or beer.

Though in the end the readership have used most models out in the field, and are the true testers.
