45 minutes north of Atlanta, get yourself a pan and find a stream and start looking for gold, your in a perfect area!

some old timers told me (back in 1984) that when Sherman hit Atlanta, the Georgia State Gold was on wagon trains headed towards Augusta....lotta territory lots of history, not enough time...sometimes you get lucky.

I live in the augusta area and there are alot of areas to be found and hunted, I have several houses on some hunting property that I have been trying to find information on , as soon as I get more time I will be checking the areas out more in person, I will be checking out the library to see what info they have , thanks

Not only can you hunt for gold (nuggets and placer in or very close to your area) like Sabre15 said; but check out the last paragraph on this page:

If I was you, I'd be getting better acquainted down at the local historical society!!

Best of luck!!

you may also want to try the courthouse at your county seat. go to the probate office and ask to see old deeds, marriage cert. and such. you may even find someone there that can turn you on to some places. i live in alabama and i have heard of a treasure tale in georgia not far from me. near lagrange. lipscomb a plantation owner buried silver and on his death bed he tried to tell his wife where it was, but she could not find it. it is supposed to be still out there some place

im starting up panning. master eagle sent me a pan.
hows the etowah below the allatoona dam?
and the toccoa?
im going to the library soon.

I am seeking information about bury treasures in Connecticut. Thank you.
