Hello, I found this this morning in a site I like to visit. It's a few miles away from any towns and the things I find there are from the fur trade; flat buttons, beads, religious items, musket balls, really old square nails, etc. Mostly dating late 1700s to mid 1800s. This was right there in the midst of where I find that stuff. The center of it has a little heart shaped piece that is bent back (visible in the picture on the left). I considered trying to straighten it, but I wanted to figure out what it is first. I would appreciate any help on this.

It does kind of have that look, but it just seems older and I'm pretty sure it's brass.

I agree pong12211 - it does look like some kind of pull tab but OMG - could you imagine the size of the can that that puppy came off of if it is a pull tab?

I have no idea what it is but it looks to be a diecut or stamp formed piece. I would expect a 1700's or early 1800's piece to be molded or formed in a mold. My guess would be 1880's to 1930's. Just a thought.
