Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Well the MAN called and wil be picking up the computer new years weekend, Fri. will have it back Tues am. Says he will increase memory, update to 2000?, install better protection, clean it, ect....So another week and a half and i will let you know how it goes. So bear with my lack of responses for now, but look out later!

Thanks for all your advice. Can't wait to be back on board daily!

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post. FIXED!

Santa the computer "MAN" came early and instead of taking mine away for a few days :'(, brought a new one all updated to windows 2000 proffesional, more memory, bigger hard drive, VIRUS protection! YES! So look out folks, I'm not afraid of any of your posts no matter how big the file ;D! Sorry if any one thought I was ignoring them, I wasn't, just afraid to open the post if it had more than a few replies or many pictures.

FYI he stated the ccleaner that Stoney mentioned is awesome. And it did help me some, I went from crashing 7-10 times a day to 1-3 times a day. I'm going to do it at home also. Thanks Stoney!

CG,
Install this on your computers and run it once a week, then run spybot afterwards. It's the best spyware removal program in existence IMO :) I also use another program called "Webroot spysweeper" that keeps watch at all times for unwanted spam, and will block ad's from places like yahoo mail from showing up on your computer. This is where a lot of tracking cookies and data miners come from.

I'm going to check out that ccleaner program too :)

You might also look into this one. I use the a-squared Free as well in conjunction with an online virus protection. BTW, you need to update manually but they update sometimes over 300 different trojans daily.

Some useful info also comes from here. But if you read enough of it, it almost makes you paranoid. LOL

If not mistaken, you can adjust your advanced privacy settings to accept 1st party cookies and also one of three (accept, block, or prompt) 3rd party cookies along with whether to allow session cookies. This is all in Tools under Internet Options.

Countrygirl, WIN 2K is a much more stable operating system than Win 98 and you shouldn't have any more trouble. I just don't understand why they didin't go with WIN XP unless its a money issue. I have almost zero problems with XP. I am having little gliches on my system now and again (no freezes) but I don't think is anything more than the fact that I have been overclocking my CPU for four years now and I think I need to go ahead a build me a new computer in February.

Haven't froze up with the computer since the upgrade. Freezing my but off outside though ;D! Brrrr. I have XP at home and never had any issues, I think the state is a little cheap ;) when it comes to spending money, but aren't they all? You really can't believe how frustrating it was to try to go to a site for work or here, have to shut everything down, lose all the work you had open and have to start all over again. I am thrilled to death to be up and running smoothly now. I am sure you folks realize just how awesome you are! I hope others got some insight and ideas from these posts. Thanks again!
