HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts dont post.

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Miner,
I feel your pain! Right in the you know what. If it is what you are saying (sounds that way), they don't mess around, they overnight a new one and take this one back to the home office to repair.
Stuck volume button, what a pain, who'd a thunk? Would have driven me crazy.

Merry Christmas to you also!

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

My original problem was exactly as you described. Mine started out a while back with it freezing when I was right in the middle of something. I could reboot and it may or not do it again. But as time went on it started getting more frequent, then I started to having turn the power off in order to get the computer to where I could try a reboot. After a while it started freezing when It started the reboot. I might get as far as the log in but could not log in the cursor was froze. After a while I didn't even get a blink from the red indicator light, it just froze as soon as I turned it on. Like I said I hope yours is not as bad as mine got.

Good Luck

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Sounds like the same issues. Getting worse by the day. I hope to nipp it in the bud before I can't even log on!
Thanks!

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

If u have updated to the new IE 7 i think it is , it is a lil buggy causing the same problems u explained. Go to IE tools upper right hand side of explorers tool bar (look up and to the right on this page)and turn off phishing filter, phishing is a means to make sure the page u are on is a legit and not a fake webpage trying to gain ur personel info. The phishing filter tends to hang ur machine and dumps u to either desktop or reboots ur puter.

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

I'm sorry but I can't find phishing filters anywhere. Went to tools, Internet options, advanced, scrolled down, no filter present. ??? Thanks for the help.

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

There also might be a problem with 3rd party cookies and session cookies.

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Hey stoney!
I usually delete my cookies, files and offline content daily (now 3-4 times a day) no help there. Dang thing just did it again, I wanted to see that stick, urgh. I will check with the "MAN" on the cclean site if he would ever call me back! Thanks for the help!

Merry Christmas to you!

Don't know if they'll allow you to but you might check this site out. Cleans up a lot of fragmented files and such.

http://www.ccleaner.com

I just downloaded the above site this morning on the shop computer and it cleaned out over 360 MB of crap. Boy, does it run faster. You also have the ability of taking care of issues, tools analysis, etc. I got the recommendation off the Yahoo anti-spy community site.
I also run adaware, spybot se, and have the AT&T popup blocker, virus scan, and a fairly good firewall. There's one other one I use at home but don't remember the name offhand. It picked up and erased a trojan that the above didn't find.

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

2 mornings in a row now Freedom Caught a Trojan

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

I did run the clean portion. 0.84 something or others to clean not much there. I scanned for Issues and it says I have issues about 30 of them. Alright, alright the computer has issues. I did not dare fix the issues, I think some of them may have involved the State programs. I guess now I will have to wait for my phone call to get my virus protection fixed, and see if this clean up worked. I'll ask if I should fix my issues ;).

Really appreciate all the input, I've learned alot. I will keep you informed.

These are probably no help but slow running, freezing etc. can also result from the cache being too small or not enough memory.
Try increasing the cache size. If you are hitting a lot of sites a lot of stuff, cookies, temp. files, etc. get saved.not all get emptied when you tell it to delete cookies or history.
Sometimes all it takes is a disk clean and then a cache increase. We had the same problem at work when they did some system upgrades.
Also some places run monitoring programs..we are allowed internet use at our place too but they still monitor the sites you visit in case someone starts posting porn or something.
THat can slow the computer down to a crawl at times.
We used to frequently experience the "screen freeze" where the entire office staff had their computers go into a vegetative state, once we increased the cache size and do a clean out, we stopped having problems.
Just some ideas.

True enough, Diggit.

This is the site I downloaded and it picked up a trojan that Spybot and SBC Online Protection didn't catch. Having a good firewall doesn't hurt either. ;)

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Spybot - Search and Destroy is a very good program. Unfortunetly with all the adware/spyware/virus programs out there one antiware/virus program will not cut it and cover them all. To keep your computer in the best shape try 2-3 different ones. Personally I don't like or use the ones that want to run in the background all the time like Mcafee and Norton. They slow down systems to much in my opinion. I personally use Spybot S&D, NoAdware and once in awhile I'll download a newer program. I'll usually run these programs once a month or so. 1 will always find stuff the other missed. That's why it's good to use several at a time. Good luck and HH.

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

KimKommado's site offwers lots of advice and free downloads. I use ad-aware and webroot - spy sweeper. exanimo, siegfried schlagrule

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Hey Country Girl....I have had a few Freezing problems. I now run adware and registry mechanic. Once a week I run them all and delete all my old on-line files which seems to be the key. The big problem I had seems to have been the same as yours. My tower has a round battery in it. It was low on power. I changed it and every thing has been great. None of the people I talked to knew (including sevice people)anything about a battery or would not tell me. If you have a service book check this out....Art

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

You folks are awesome! You really are teaching me alot, I feel like a little sponge.

My "MAN" never did call back, so to heck with him. I tried Stoneys Ccleaner site, did the clean, seems to have helped so far. I think part of the issue is the cookies and files do hang out even if you delete them, not sure will be able to tell better today. Thing is when I checked for issues there were alot, I did not dare fix them with out some advice. Dang thing is already a mess, can't hurt can it? Will let you know how today goes. I'm only at work until noon, but I'll look at things I normally don't out of fear of freeze up.

Thanks so much for al your help, I will look into diffrent virus and spyware, Thank you!

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Sounds like something has infected your hard drive - maybe a worm looking for personal information? I would try running various clean up programs and if it still happens, save important documents/files on a flash drive and do a complete factory restore. ;D

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

i've seen this happen time and again, cleaning is the right term, but what to clean :). Have your IT guys come back with a screw driver and a couple of cans of air and blow the machine out, if you have allergy's I would leave the room... What you are describing could very well be a heat problem, too much dust in the PC. I clean out 3 or 4 a month for people who experience the exact same problem, it runs like a champ when i'm done :)

Remember, PCs generally have anywhere from 2 to (if your me and heavy mods) 4 or 5 fans in them that all suck air and dust etc INTO your machine. Should be taken apart every 6 months and cleaned out, more often if you exist in a dusty area or have interaction with the door to the outside world.

Re: HELP! Computer freeze up and or posts don't post.

Cool I'll try that also, easy enough to try.

It just happened again, totally frustrating, but I'm back to visit. Just can't look at anything with pictures :(.

Still no phone call. Sorry Stoney thought you may have had it.

Have a wonderful day all!
