Sunday morning around 0330 I got jolted out of a dead sleep, by the most unforgiving and unrelenting pain I have experienced.

I tried different things to relieve the pain and nothing worked. By 0600 I couldn't stand up straight. Wife was just waking so told her I needed to hit the ER.

It was virtually empty so we were taken back right away. After some x-rays, CT Scans, they discovered i had a perforated intestine (Small Intestine). They had doped me up on pain relievers to get the tests down.

I was brought into an OR room and while laying on the OR table I was signing consent forms to have the procedure done. Told them if they missed anything get with CINC Household she can sign that stuff. By the time I was under and opened up I had air in the abdominal cavity and some bacteria leakage.

I won't be released before Christmas that is sure.

Update I was evicted from the hospital at around 1830 this evening. Other than the tube up the nose all the way to stomach, it wasn't too bad. Due to other health issues, smoking history etc. My healing process will take a bit longer and can be easily complicated.

Well to be honest if I didn't complicate an easy process it means I'm slacking, and losing touch with my Air Force roots.

Great nursing staff on the floor, and surgical staff was awesome. The doctor that performed my surgery delayed leaving for her families Christmas trip to Disney by a few hours to get me fixed up. Says something about her, as she could have easily passed it off to someone else. Apparently after getting down to Disney, she kept checking in with the hospital for updates on me.

Throw in the fact that due to the hole in the intestine my abdominal cavity was filling with air and bacteria, and there was real concern of peritonitis, which can cause sepsis. So a delay in surgery could have been detrimental to my health.

If I had wrote it off as a weird sciatic nerve issue, medicated it and gone back to bed I wouldn't be typing this today.

So I'm lucky I'm still on this side of the dirt. Now to figure out how to get comfortable on my back and still be able to move without aggravating my incision. My wife is sleeping on the couch, she has put a pass through gate at the door to keep the fur monsters from laying or standing on my incision. They can see me, but can't get to me. But at least they know the fetcher of treats still lives.

I want to thank everyone for the well wishes, it really means a lot. Proves that even as strangers per se we are still one big family, maybe a bit dysfunctional at times, but still family.

It was scary how quick all this unfolded, and how quick these things can go from bad to worse. But even scarier to think what the outcome would've been if we didn't go to the ER, or I delayed telling her to take me to the ER.

I honestly thought I pulled, pinched, twisted something in my sleep. Wouldn't have been the first time, but something in my head said go to the ER, and rest is history and at least I'm not.

So for the next few weeks I'll be in recovery mode. Recovery mode two words that never sounded as good as they do now.

I'll just add this Christmas, to my list of previous missed ones, along with other holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, firsts, etc.

Again thank you all for the well wishes, they really did mean a lot to me and my family.

To close this out today's ramblings, a quote from the immortal Paul Harvey sounds appropriate ......and now you know the rest of the story!
