Hayward school to sponsor toy gun exchange

ben, you wrote, "In this case, I do not see anything wrong with schools taking action to promote gun safety. "
Please explain any connection here between this program and gun safety. They are turning in a toy for a book. (hopefully a book with absolutely no violence in it) Are they going to explain to each child how to safely handle a gun? Where is the "real" education on gun safety? There isn't any! Turn in your scary gun and get a book. How in the world is that promoting gun safety? It's promoting gun fear, nothing else. Is the agenda changing to disarming the make believe world first and then disarming the real world will be easier? I suppose it would be fine if my grandkids wanted to just keep their real guns and turn in toys they aren't using for books.

If it was in Cambridge Massachusetts i bet the book would be about gay pride seeing as how they have gay pride day once a week:sign10:

Are you actually implying that because parents aren't raising their own kids, the state is somehow trying to claim them as their own?

You are taking that a bit too far... If anything, it is more like they are no one's kids because no one is raising them.
Eother that or they are just figuring it out as they go along or sadly on the streets.

No, I'm saying that because parents decided to stop teaching the morals and ethics of things like hard work, sacrifice, and savings, and manners, the childrens teachers tried to fill that role and it has spiraled our of control. I didn't say anything about people raising their kids.

Did you read the entire article?

"At Saturday's event, called Strobridge Elementary Safety Day, a Hayward police officer will demonstrate bicycle and gun safety, and the Alameda County Fire Department is sending a rig and crew to talk about fire safety".

A MESSAGE TO ALL PARENTS--- please treat your kids with respect & remember that communication with them is VERY importaint
It is your responsibility to ensure that they learn from your mistakes that you have made & learned from over time, so that they
will be able to make good, sound, decisions in in their own life. The government is just interested in turning them into good ,little
controllable 'sheep'. It is YOUR job to make sure they have ALL the facts/information to guild them into being a responsible adult.

Yes I did read it ben and I've commented on a police officer demonstrating gun safety. Do you really think a school (especially this one) or parents would allow a police officer to teach the kids how to safely HANDLE a REAL gun? Plllllllllllllllllllllllease! I'm betting the "gun safety" presentation will be more on the order of, "If you see a gun, don't touch it and tell an adult about it".
I know you hate it when comparisons are used but they show the dimwitted thinking being used in today's society.
Say they want to prevent kids from driving too fast and killing themselves and their friends when they get old enough to drive. So, to prevent this from happening they have all the kids bring in their toy racecars. In turn, they get a book and a highway patrolman gives them a lecture on safe driving. I think this is a fair comparison and I still say it won't prevent anything.

You know for all your negativity, it is really starting to get me down.

And the alternative is???????????????

I realize that many of you think this is the stupidest idea in the world. That is fine. I am not saying it is perfect by any means.

But at least someone is actually doing something real instead of just complaining on the Internet or passing pointless bills.

I don't mean to get you down ben but, it's a "no-effect" exercise so why waste the time. Maybe they just want to get rid of some old library books. You state that, "at least someone is actually doing something real instead of just complaining on the Internet". What are they doing that is "real" that is going to change anything except maybe instill a fear of guns in a child? Actually, I don't think that any kid, that has actually played with a gun that they turned in, will have a different attitude about them as they walk away with their book. Many of us complaining on the internet know what guns are, we know how to use them, we know how to train our children in their use, we have no fear of guns and we know that gun accidents involving kids are an adult's fault and senseless killings with guns are the result of nutjobs. Turning in a plastic squirt gun for a book when you are 7 years old will not keep you from becoming a nutjob. If you are going to take time to address gun safety then do just that, don't waste the time on an exercise in futility. It's like all of the other dumba$$ legislation coming out of our elected morons. This country has never been this blind. The wool is getting thicker by the day.

I would say all "toy' guns need to be 100% made of "bright orange" to help cops see that it is not a real weapon * that is a reasonable ideal -- because no one wants to see a kid get shot by "mistake" because a looks real "toy" gun is seen by a cop * that said playing cops and robbers or cowboys and indains is normal --kids do need to be taught the difference between real guns and "toy ones" --my dad when I was young took an old melon and had me shoot it with a pistol * he then said "ok put iit back together again" -- lesson learned you can't --it willl do the same thing to a person son he told me . and dead is forever, theres no "undoing it" one needs to "respect firearms and what they can do as well as one another"

If I were a crook I suppose I could paint my real gun orange and cause the law to hesitate when they should be shooting at me. I agree, kids need to be taught the difference between real and toy. That takes as much teaching as being able to tell a real baby from a pretend one.

yea I'm sure the police somewhere have already used the "I thought it was a real one painted orange"
excuse to fire on children. or will.

just like teachers soil themseves when they see
a little girl with a pink bubble gun

Packer, not everyone knows the difference.

Guys, remember that there are all different types of people that live in this country. Even your neighbors might not be exactly like you are. Just because you all are experts on guns, doesnt mean that your neighbor is. Try to keep this in mind when dealing with other people day to day.

Now you're talkin' ben. I agree totally with your last post except I don't consider myself a gun expert nor do I believe it takes an expert to safely and effectively handle a gun. They are not that complicated. Thing is, with all of this spitting, peeing and farting into the wind to try and come up with answers just demonizes guns to those that are not enthusiasts. Then, when it comes time for the lawmakers that know very little about guns, as I suspect these school officials do, the public supports the morons because they don't know any better. THAT IN TURN AFFECTS ME! Every dimwitted exercise, law, regulation or whatever that is undertaken without any solid knowledge of the subject just adds to the ignorance pile which will in turn foster more laws or restrictions upon MY RIGHTS. Why should my rights be effected by ignorance on the part of the voters and the lawmakers. If you intend to challenge my rights, let's do it with logic! If that takes place, I'll win. :)

To those who think trading a PLASTIC gun for a book. Please explain to me with the news and your Government putting out press releases once a month about our Public Scrool students on average have a 3rd grade reading capacity when entering high scrool. So who's going to read it? unless.....It's the old.. See Jack run, see Jill bead up on Jack See Jacks brains on the ground That's bad. see spot try to revive Jack Jill Reloads and blasts Spot.s ass in to next page. That's bad to' and so is Jill. The End.

I'm rather partial to "See Jane, see Jane run.See Jane run and jump over the wall.Jane has defected"

Or "See Dick, see Dick work.See Spot watch Dick.Spots no fool"

homey don't play that.

heard about the dipstick that tried to turn in a "pipe bomb" at the gun buy back?--the cops told him this is a "gun buy" back not a "bomb buy back" you idiot , and arrested the dipstick --LOL
